Obituary of James Hester

Please click the link below to view the video tribute. http://videos.lifetributes.com/?id=13994 James "Jim" Hester Jim was born on Sept. 17, 1946 at Camp Polk, LA and passed away at Franciscan Hospice on Jan. 30, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Becky, daughter, Sarah "Vogue", son, James (Sarah), brothers, Webb (Cheryl), Sully (Lynn), Randy (Jane), Joe, Mike, and sister, Mary Jo (Button), He is also survived by grandchildren, Anna, Abby, and Lucas, nieces and nephews, Ali, Amanda, Amy, Naomi, Rachel, Sadie, Adam, Osel, and Zack and his mother-in-law, Fran McPherson. He is preceded in death by his parents, Finlay and Josephine. Jim was a manufacturing rep for roofing materials. He was active in the Roofing Contractors Association and CSI and served on both boards. He graduated from PLU and The Evergreen State College. Above all else, Jim was a family man and a loyal friend. He was always willing to help people. He was a great cook and loved to entertain. Many people enjoyed his multi-coursed meals paired with wines and champagne. His knowledge of food and wine was amazing. This Thanksgiving turkey was his best yet. Jim was a lover of the blues and jazz traveling frequently with his wife to music festivals like the New Orleans Jazz Heritage festival, the King Biscuit Blues festival, and the Chicago Blues Festival. Music was always playing in his home, and dancing in the kitchen was frequent. Jim also loved high school football and basketball and attended many playoff games in the Tacoma Dome with his brother, Joe and friend Jon. The Hester family never had a TV when the kids were growing up; but when Jim got cancer, a TV was purchased so that he could watch college basketball games and the independent film channel and enjoy watching British mysteries on PBS with his wife. He was a member of the Grand Cinema and attended films frequently. After his diagnosis of cancer, he and Becky traveled twice to Europe, to Florida, and went on many family trips to the beach. Many memorable weekends were spent with friends. Jim wanted to make memories for his family and friends. Jim will be missed by many but not forgotten. His birthday will be celebrated every year. Thanks to the staffs of floor 10A at St. Joes and Franciscan Hospice for their wonderful care. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Franciscan Hospice, the Mason United Methodist Church youth programs, or YMCA Camp Seymour. Inurnment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th St. in Kent on Wed., Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held at the Titlow Beach Lodge, 8425 6th Ave. on Fri., Feb. 8 from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. Arrangements by Edwards Memorial Center 253-566-1008
