John, You leave a wonderful legacy of two beautiful and successful girls and I am lucky to be the proud mother of one of them. For that you will always have a special place in my heart. Keep those ducks fed, fat and happy until Megan sees you again. Take care of Bart, Jack and Simmy for us--we know they are glad to see you!

I WAS STRUGGLING IN MY LIFE, TRYING TO FIND MYSELF, AND I JUST STARTED A NEW JOB. MY NEW JOB JUST SO HAPPENED TO BE AT THE TERRACE APARTMENTS WHERE JOHN LIVED. HE CAME IN TO PAY HIS RENT WITH THE MOST WELCOMING SMILE. HE MADE ME FEEL RIGHT AT HOME. HE WOULD TAKE HIS MORNING WALKS AND AFTERNOON WALKS EVERY DAY, AND WALK INTO MY OFFICE AND TALK ABOUT EVERYTHING WE COULD POSSIBLY TALK ABOUT.FROM MUSIC TO CANDY. HE BECAME VERY DEAR TO MY HEART. EVERY TIME IT SEEMED THINGS WERE GETTING ROUGH, HE WOULD SWOOP RIGHT IN AND TELL ME NOT TO GET DEPRESSED, BECAUSE HE DIDNT WANT TO SEE ANYONE HURTING INSIDE. IT SEEMED LIKE HE WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT COULD READ RIGHT THROUGH ME. AS HE GRABBED A HANDFULL OF BUTTERSCOTCH, HE ALWAYS MADE SURE I WAS HAPPY BEFORE HE WALKED OUT OF MY OFFICE. HE WAS ALSO VERY SPECIAL TO MY FIANCE AND MY CHILDREN. HE SPENT A GREAT DEAL OF TIME WITH US ALL. DURING THE LAST WEEKS OF HIS LIFE, HE HAD ASKED ME IF I SAID MY PRAYERS, AND I TOLD HIM YES! HE TOLD ME HE SAID HIS TOO. I WILL ALWAYS AND FOREVER REMEMBER THE GIFT THAT THE LORD PUT IN MY LIFE, JOHN!!! MR. BUTTERSCOTCH!!! PEACE TO ALL FAMILY.

It's hard to imagine what the world would have been like without Schalers, and Ma must have been thinking about us when she decided to populate most of Tillicum. It never appeared to be an easy life to those of us from the outside, but things changed the moment you walked into the door. There was ALWAYS laughter, and competition for everything: from food to football, to the line at the bathroom door. As I get older, I'm enamored with the roles people play in our lives. Johnny was always wonderful to me,and always treated me like another brother--Ma's fourteenth. His signature laugh and smile was given to me freely, and I'm not sure I ever did anything to deserve it. It was a gift, and Johnny, I was honored to receive it. Listen closely, and it's not too difficult to imagine Ma and Bobby and Johnny laughing that Schaler laugh together again. My love to you John, and my love goes out to your family as well! I will never forget you!

Dear John, I wanted to let you know that there hasn't been a day that I dont think about you. During John's stay at Orchard Park, I was one of many aides that took care of him. I would always ask how my main man was and he would say THAT'S ME. He always smiled, never complained, and always thanked you for the work you did for him. I remember we would pray together. He would say parts and I would say parts then we would join together. I had only been an aide 1 month when I met John. He honestly is the reason I love my job soooooo much. It is the best feeling to make somebody smile and know that they greatly appreciate you. I miss his warm smile and little chuckles. John, you will always be missed. <3 I am so happy you are pain free now and in a beautiful place.
