Obituary of Diana Lynn Hickey

The angels surrounded Diana Hickey on May 6, 2009. She was taken unexpectedly, due to a heart attack, with her husband Bruce at her side. Diana was born October 26, 1957. She leaves behind her husband of 20 years Bruce, her son Christopher (Kristy), her parents, Earl and Margaret Brearty, her sisters Susan (Joel) White and Karen Brearty and brother Michael (Melissa) Brearty. Also to mourn her passing is her extended family, co-workers, friends, and the many lives she touched over the years working at Grant Elementary. Diana was born and grew up in Tacoma, Washington. She was the eldest of four children. Diana went to Rogers Elementary, Gault Junior High and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1975. In high school she played clarinet in the band, softball, and was camp counselor. After graduation she attended Clover Park Technical College and became a dental assistant. She worked at that career for many years until she decided to make a change and start working for Tacoma Public Schools. Diana worked for Grant Elementary for 16 years as a cashier in the lunch program. She was adored by the children who attended Grant and will be forever missed by all of them. She was a devoted wife to her husband Bruce. They spent 20 happy years together doing the things that they loved. Diana was a wonderful mother to her son Christopher and his wife Kristy. They spent a lot of family time together. Diana loved to collect angels and at last count she had 130 of them. She loved to go to the casino with Bruce and her mom and dad (she was often a winner). In earlier years they went on camping trips to Millersylvania and other places. Diana loved to work in her gardens and make Bruce eat his vegetables. Finally, she enjoyed working her crossword puzzles (in ink). A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, May 17th at 12:00, at the Fire Fighters Hall, 1109 South 50th St., Tacoma, Washington.
