Obituary of Claude A. Dixon

Retired CSGM Major Claude A. Dixon, was the only child of the late Claude and Ellen Dixon, was born February 12, 1920 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He attended high school at Crispus Attucks in Indiana. He earned an associates degree from Ft. Steilacoom Community College in Business Administration and a law certificate from LaSalle University. Mr. Dixon had an accomplished Military career (29 years), served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam conflicts. He received many awards: AME Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Korean Service Medal, 2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Clasp for Good Conduct, Medals with 3 Loops Marksmanship (Carbine), Sharpshooter Badges (2), Letter of Appreciation and Adjutant School. He eventually retired with his wife, Juanita and family in Steilacoom, Washington. Mr. Dixon had a wide variety of interests. He was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed poetry, music and the arts. He loved to travel, taught all of his children to play chess, a great story teller, avid sports fan, prolific photographer, no one has more gadgets, a watch and radio collector, and loved hats (especially his 3 War Veteran cap). He enjoyed road trips, riding bikes with his children, conducting family meetings and could sing "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas" like no other. He lived life with zest and adventure. Mr. Dixon departed this life on Wednesday, January 21, 2009. He was 88 years old. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 54 years Juanita Dixon, his four daughters; Anita Dixon-Thomas of Atlanta, GA, Cheryl (Aaron) Haskins of Renton, Crystal Dixon of Steilacoom, Barbara (Christian) Smith of Des Moines and one son Claude A. Dixon III of Phoenix, AZ. He has 11 grandchildren; LaTasha, Aaron Jr., Tierri, Andrew, Carissa, Lyric, Julia, Nathanael, Claude IV, and preceded in death by grandson Nehemiah. He was the great-grandfather of four; Isaiah, Kaylie, Kevin and Kloe and he had many friends and associates. He was a man of integrity, leadership and character and will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Memorial service to be held 11AM Thursday, 1/29 at North Fort Chapel, Fort Lewis, WA.
