Erik's right, we go back a long way. Joe was a 'part of our family' since Erik was less than 1 year old, late 1969. We spent many evenings and weekends with him. Sometimes, those evenings lasted 'til the sun came up!! He was always fun to be around, and; we shared a love of music, dancing, riding motorcycles, playing baseball, playing basketball, playing volleyball, and all around fun. I was always happy to have him come to the lake every August, and will always miss him. Yes, we named our second son after him, Joseph D. Swanson!! God bless you, Joe Kistler, I love you. Thank you for being my friend.

Joe was a great friend of our family as far back as I can remember, since I was a little kid. My brother Joe was even named after him. I will miss his storytelling and his vivacious, friendly personality. Joe *always* sent me a birthday card, every year, for as long as I can possibly remember. Ironically, today is my birthday, March 12th. I will always miss his thoughtful cards from now on.

I will always remember Joe as the 'timeless person'. One who never seemed to grow old in thought or deed.

Mr Kistler was my fifth grade teacher. I remember him fondly. It was while in his class that John Kennedy was assassinated and Mr Kistler helped all of us understand that life is not always kind and people are not always good. My condolences to the family.

Michelle. Sorry about the incorrect spelling of your name in my letter to you and your family. I won't repeat that letter here. Ted Coates sent you a nice e-mail about Joe also. And I didn't remember about Joe's Finn connection. In fact, my mother, born in Finland, was Laina Maki. You might tell John and Lori. We miss Joe. Our best to you all.

Mr. Kistler was always the nicest teacher at Central Ave. I never had him but my brothers or sisters probably did. He always planned after school dances he called them platter parties. Its been 35+ years since C.A. he will be missed by many.

I didn't know Joe well, but always enjoyed our meetings while walking along Ruston Way. Sports, travel, politics, or you name it, Joe was always good for some lively conversation. I'm so happy Joe was able to complete his long anticipated, and talked about, train trip to the east coast before his passing. His many friends are going to miss him during their strolls along Ruston Way.

Joe was the true Uncle of my husband John. 'UJ' as we often called him, spent most holidays at our home. John and he would play jazz on the stereo in the kitchen, drink champagne and prepare the family dinners. I will always remember these special times and can feel the sting of the void in our family. We loved our Uncle Joe and will miss him terribly.

The first time that Joe saw a couple of us girls at jazz club, we had just sat down and when we reached for our purses he thought oh no they smoke but to his liking we were only putting away our keys. He had to come and tell us that story before that Sunday afternoon dancing was over. That was the beginning of many festivals share with him. He always had a smile and a big hug and kiss awaiting us when he saw us. My birthday is in April and I will miss the beautiful cards and special words that he sent me every year. How special he was to many. I will remember him alway. What a great guy our Uncle Joe is!

I have so many fond memories of talking and dancing with Joe. He always remembered my birthday with a card and loving message. I will miss getting a card this November and his distinct style of writing. Joe was a lover of jazz and knew more about music and artists than anyone else I knew. I will miss Joe greatly and savor the cards I have saved that he sent me. He always saved a slow dance for me and I will always remember his soft lips on my cheek at the end of a dance. Here is one for you Joe...;-) Love, Shirley
