Obituary of Jewel Dean Nelson

Born July 2, 1927 in Muldrow, Oklahoma passed away in Tacoma, Washington January 6, 2011. Jewel passed peacefully with daughters Debbie and Donna by her side, as she had said in her last wishes, with grace and dignity. Jewel married Bill Eaton, August 6, 1943 in Muskogee, Oklahoma, shortly after that they moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico, living quite a life ranching, traveling all over the United States following the rodeo circuit, teaching Sunday school, meeting famous people, even modeling in Porters & Miller and Stockman magazines. At this time, everyone called her Little Girl Eaton. She had three children in this marriage: Bill, Daisy and Debbie. She lived and enjoyed this lifestyle until her divorce from Bill in 1964. She never forgot this lifestyle, because she would talk about those days throughout her life reminiscing, calling herself a country bumpkin. She married J.D. Nelson, December 16, 1964. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Oxnard, California until the construction work became slow, moving back to Carlsbad, New Mexico. When a friend called J.D. letting him know the construction industry was booming in and around Tacoma, Washington, they packed up and moved to Tacoma in 1967. They took only with them what they could fit in a 1966 Chevrolet Impala, making Tacoma their new home. She had two more children in this marriage: Donna & Darrell. Jewel will be most remembered for her love of children, cooking, her stories, and bingo! Memorial service for Jewel’s family and friends to share memories of her life will be held on Saturday January 22, 2011 @ Grace Lutheran Church, 6202 S Tyler St, Tacoma, WA 98409. This will be an open house event from 2:00pm – 6:00pm. Please stop by and share your memories of Jewel.
