Obituary of Robert Joseph Mahan

Bob Mahan passed away surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Rayfield; three sons and daughter-in-law, Joshua, Jeremiah and Lucretia, and Samuel; grandchildren, Makaila, Ryan, and Dylan; mother, Josephine; mother-in-law Dorothy Parker; brothers and sister, Timothy, John, and Mary Alice; and numerous extended family. Bob was raised Catholic in West Hempstead, NY, where he served as an altar boy at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. He attended Holy Cross High School in Flushing, NY. In Tacoma he was a parishioner at The Church of St. Patrick. Bob dedicated his professional life to helping others. Until the end he was a practicing occupational therapist working for the Clover Park School District. He obtained a master’s degree from the University of Puget Sound, a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University, and an associate of arts degree from Nassau Community College. Many of Bob’s earlier years were spent working as a union millwright and as a member of the carpenters union. Bob enjoyed playing tennis, vacationing with his family in Hawaii, cycling, running, and spending time at home. Most importantly Bob Mahan was a loving husband, father, son, brother, co-worker, and friend. We who knew and loved him will miss him dearly, and are proud to have had him in our lives. Although arrangements are not yet set a memorial service will be held in the near future. Please check back for details. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Bob’s name to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org). 2 Tim 4:7 – I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
