Bob was loved and respected by many people because of the kind of person that he was. He was very devoted and proud of his family, and truly enjoyed the work that he did with his students. One of the reasons that I admired him so much was because of his positive attitude throughout his battle with cancer. And during this ordeal, he never hesitated to be there for others with encouragement and support! How many of us do that, even on our best days?? There are many good people in this world, but there will never be another 'Mr. Bob'. He is greatly missed, but will never be forgotten! My thoughts and prayers are with each and every member of his family.

I met Bob in 1999. He was starting in Clover Park and I was starting in Puyallup; both as OTs. Our paths crossed professionally through technology and WOTA for the next 5 years until I joined him in Clover park in 2004. For non-OTs, one of the most important components of OT is a practice called therapeutic use of self. This involves making yourself just as important to a student's progress as the activities selected or the gadgets and gizmos used. This was one of Bob's strengths. He was so gentle, kind, and sincere with his students. He respected them as highly capable individuals and in turn received great respect from them. He was always sharing new ideas for a class to teach or therapy session to offer. Bob was passionate about his students, OT, and technology. That's what I know most about Bob; his profession and his professionalism. That and Hawaii :) I recently got a rare glimpse into his private life. We talked on the phone about a variety of things, including Sam's first broken bone. As we spoke, my new baby cried in the background. He paused briefly and then told me to enjoy every second of her; they grow too fast. In this brief exchange, I got to hear just how much he loves his children. It was special and I'll remember those words forever. So, Bob, thank you-- for teaching us to do what we love, to love what we do and to never give up without a fight.

It was a privilege to work with Bob at Clover Park. I always enjoyed Bob's insights and desire to expand a student's ability to access his/her world. He was also an inspiration as he took on the challenge of cancer-no matter what was going on Bob had a positive comment or outlook on what was happening. He will be missed. Sincere sympathy to his family.

Bob was a very kind and caring man.I feel honored to have known him.He showed concern for both students and staff. He liked to give me a bad time during football season, because as he put it, I had the misfortune of being a Green Bay Packer Fan. I will miss his sense of humor.

I had the pleasure of working with Bob for about 8 years. During that time we had many lengthy conversations about students and our families as well. He was always a kind and compassionate man towards all and made connections with the students he served. When talking about his family Bob beamed with pride. His faith was evident in the way he chose to live his life. I also had a connection to Bob because of my father in law having colon cancer, Bob made sure to support me and my family as we struggled with the same issues he was dealing with I am forever grateful for the support from Bob and Sandy. I miss Bob already but wait and hope for the day when I can see my friend again.

Dad, I am so grateful for everything you did for me. I attribute all of my best qualities to the lessons I learned by watching you when I was young. You were honest and kind, even when those were the most difficult options. You're no longer with us physically, but the man you were will always be with me. Every time I do something well, everytime I perform an act of kindness, and everytime I carry on with integrity, I'll know that it is you living on through me. Thank you for being an amazing father. I'll always look up to you. I love you, and I'm going to miss you.

I would like to express my condolences to the family of Robert Mahan. I'm so sorry for your family's loss. what a difficult time it is when we lose our loved one in death. Robert will be dearly missed. The Bible provides us with the finest basis of comfort, especially at a time like this. When my mother passed away, after a long battle with cancer, a scripture that greatly helped me with my loss is Isaiah 25:8, 'He will actually swallow up death forever, and the sovereign Lord Jehovah will certainly wipe the tears from all faces.' What a beautiful scripture. God's promise of a time when there will be no more pain, suffering, or death. Also, Psalms 146: 5,9: 'Happy is the one...whose hope is in Jehovah God...The fatherless boy and the widow he relieves.' Right now God has such loving concern for you as a bereaved one. I hope these verses will be a source of comfort to you, as they have been to me. A booklet that gave me comforting answers from the Bible, at the time of my loss is entitled, 'When Someone You Love Dies...' I would be happy to send you a copy. Just let me know through my email address. Again, my deepest sympathies to the family of Robert Mahan. Sincerely, Vaughan Amende
