TO ME UNCLE WILBER WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED BY HIS QUIET DEMEANOR, A WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE ABOUT EVERY-THING PLANTS, AND MANY MANY YEARS AGO AN OLD STATION WAGON THAT HAD WOODEN SIDE PANELS ON IT. OF COURSE IT WAS ALWAYS FULL OF STUFF, JUST LIKE EVERY HOUSE HE EVER LIVED IN THAT WE VISITED. HE WAS A KIND AND GENTLE PERSON WHO I WILL ALWAYS WILL REMEMBER FONDLY.

How do you describe the scent of a rose,or the color of a daffodil? Nor can I adequately express the way my Uncle has touched my life. I am grateful for his example and the many memories I will always cherish. Proverbs 3:5,6

Wilbur was a very special person to me. I came to know him during my tenure as Executive Director of Lakewold Gardens. He was a great supporter and a dear friend. He will be missed. Sadly, I did not hear of his death until after the memorial service. I would have like to have been there. Know that my thoughts are with you. Wilbur was the greatest mentor that I ever could have had. I learned so much in the 7 short years Wilbur and I spent working side by side. Wilbur was quiet, but had a huge presence, and when he spoke I always knew to listen. I miss Wilbur very much, but he will live on from what he taught me and others. When I met Wilbur plants were just plants, but now plants have names and character, I appreciate and understand them. I thank Wilbur for everthing he did for me. Have fun Gardening in Heaven Wilbur. -John

Dear Ones, There are few who so quietly shared and with less pretension loved and gave of themselves. We learned to love Wilbur's quiet gentle ways very young and always treasured the time spent with him. Those times were few in life's scheme yet they are priceless in our memory because of their scarcity. He is richly missed but at home with our saviour and Lord, Jesus and that brings great comfort, we'll see him again.

Wilbur, I will always remember you as the kind and gentle soul that you are. I have many things growing in my garden that have been touched by your hand. They trigger memories of our trips to Eastern WA, Oregon, and the mountains that I will never forget. I learned so much from you. It must be that Heaven's gardens needed tending and God knew that there was no one more qualified than you. You are missed, my friend. Jim Heiser

Reader's Digest used to have a section called 'My Most Unforgettable Character'. As a youngster I never thought I would ever meet anyone who was as important or as interesting as some of the people they talked about in the articles. I didn't until I met Wilbur. He was a mentor and an unforgettable friend.

I remember Uncle Wilbur always had a quiet, gentle smile when I saw him. He loved his puppy-dog friends and was always very patient. Every Christmas I look forward to seeing the 'kissing ball' ornaments he made for Grandma June. We will remember him sweetly, especially when his sparkling decorations light up the holidays.
