Rick was born on May 22, 1959 in Fort Huachuca, AZ to Clarence and Monica Porter. He is preceded in death by his father and brother Kevin. He is survived by his loving wife, Janna; daughter Jillian Keller; mother Monica; sisters Cathy, Teresa, Monica and Karen; brother Michael; nephews Bill Porter, Kevin Monroe, Ryan Bohanan, Joshua, Nicholas, Elliott and Avery Keller; nieces Samantha and Danielle Porter. He passed away in the comfort of his home on May 18, 2010 after a 2 year battle with cancer. In his early life, he traveled the world with his military family and finally settled in Tacoma, WA. He attended St. Ann's, Baker Junior High and Mt. Tahoma High School. He moved on to the Job Corps, learned construction trades and worked in that field for many years. He then went on to work for Fred Meyers as a meat cutter for 16 years where he made many great friends. He met and married Janna Keller and they had their beloved daughter, Jillian. As a family, they enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing and many other outdoor activities. Rick was as avid woodworker who excelled at designing and making Arts and Crafts style furniture. In his later years, he spent most of his free time dreaming up plans for use of their acreage in Lakebay, WA on the Key Peninsula. On Rick's behalf, the family would like to thank all of his dear friends at Fred Meyer for their constant love and support throughout his illness; his oncologist, Dr. Wadsworth along with his nurses and staff for their compassion and excellent care; Multicare Hospice for doing the work of angels here on earth. We will be forever grateful. Services will be held at 10AM Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at Visitation Catholic Church, 3306 South 58th Street, Tacoma, WA. Reception will follow. Donations can be made through the following link, to Team 91: a Relay for Life team his daughter and friends have developed for the American Cancer Society's Tacoma event in June. http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFLFY10National?px=15245694&pg=personal&fr_id=22037
