I met Edie through my sister Dona, and Edie's daughters Jody and Christi. I apologize for my tardiness in signing the Guestbook,I just found out last week of Edie's passing. I am shocked. Edie was always so health conscious, she always had something to teach and looked out for my sister and I. Summers were spent sitting on her front porch talking (gossiping a little too), listening to music-'You Make Me Feel Brand New' was a favorite of hers and she played it alot. Yes, mowing the yard in her Bikini was another interesting thing too-but it taught me to not let what other people think about you bother you-which Edie did throughout her whole life. My condolences to both Jody and Christi. I understand your pain. You probably have found yourself doing something or saying something like Edie would have done-a testament that she will always be a part of you-Always. Keep the memories of her close to your heart and she will always be with you. Again please pardon my tardiness in acknowledging the passing of Edie. Lisa Virgil

Mrs.Brick was my favorite teacher at Manitou Elem. She was very friendly, outgoing, patient, and kind. She pushed me through my fifth grade year and made a big impact on my life through schooling. May she rest in peace.

As fellow Dachshund lovers (Ruby), we always loved it when Edie stopped by our house on one of her long walks with Libby. Edie was full of life and love, and the entire neighborhood (for several blocks each way) benefited from her friendliness and great spirit. Our neighborhood has a hole in it by Edie's passing.

Dearest Jodi, Christie, Jerry, Pablo, Jesse, Carmen and yes, Libby too! It is so difficult to realize that we will never see Edie in this world of ours again....but know she was happily welcomed by many on the other side. Her loss to us all is the closing of such an important chapter in our lives. I remember when my brother, Grant, first introduced her to our family, I told Grant, 'Edie is a keeper!' and she most definitely was. She was keeper who continually gave the best and most precious gifts a person can ever give another; True and constant love, support, encouragement, compassion, all while sharing her knowledge and inquisitive mind even when faced with her own brave suffering. She gave my brother, Grant, the happiest years of his life and cared for him during his battle with cancer like no one but Edie could. I am so saddened by her loss for you, for us and for all who were fortunate enough to have the priviledge of Edie in our lives.

My granddaughter, Kara, had Mrs. Brick for 5th grade at Manitou School. She came to her High School graduation party and encouraged her to go on to higher education. She was a 'rare' kind of teacher, the best at preparing the kids for middle & high school. She will be missed by us.

Mrs. Brick was one of our favorite people. We were heartbroken to find out she is gone.We were just at her house over the summer and had no idea she was sick. Our children Sebastian and Kandace had her for 5th grade at Manitou.Sebastian was her 'right hand man'.He gave her the bassethound key chain that she proudly displayed forever.Kandace adored her too and mailed her a picture of her mini dachsund puppy 'Maggie May'. Shortly after that she showed off her mini dachsund...Liberty Belle. She always made us laugh and with kind eyes, a smile, and a big hug she made us feel like family. The first conference my husband and I went to she just stared at him and said he was her brother reincarnated.Edie will be missed terribly by the Moody family. What a beautiful soul the angels in heaven have received.

Mrs. Brick was an amazing teacher. She made our daughter's fifth grade year so wonderful. But it didn't stop there. She continued to encourage our daughter throughout her school years and even came to her graduation party. Thanks, Mrs. Brick, for being such a caring teacher and person!

Edie and I were long time neighbors on Junett Street until I moved in 1992. Edie was always full of energy and drive as evidenced by her beautiful lawn. I will always remember Edie being outside with her beloved dog. I was sorry to read about her passing.

Thinking back, there are two instances in my life that I remember experiencing an overwhelming feeling of nervousness. The first time was back in 1991 when Christi and I were dating, and it was time to meet Mom. The second time was last summer when I offered Edie to cut her lawn. It went well! Edie thanked me and told me I did a good job; just like a teacher would tell her student. When I returned a couple of weeks later, Edie very nicely suggested...actually she told me, (with her big smile), where to start and end mowing so the lines on the lawn would look just the way she liked them. Needless to say, it looked better her way. Edie was always a teacher in and out of the classroom. I also learned more important things from her, like the power of positive thinking. I don't think I've ever met anyone with a more positive outlook in life than her. Edie was a gifted teacher, a caring mom, a wonderful grandmother and a great friend. She's gone too soon, but I take solace and comfort in the fond memories and the laughs we shared. Someday Edie and I will meet again in spirit, she'll probably have a martini on the rocks with too much vermouth for my liking, and I'll have a mojito that took me too long to make. We'll be outside on the lawn, enjoying the sunshine of course, and we'll visit for hours like often we did.

Edie was a wonderful neighbor and friend. She was very friendly and know most everyone is the neighborhood. She was interested in people but she was never a busy body or gossip. She is the type of person every neighborhood needs. I miss her terribly as I am certain you do. When I was doing yard work on Monday I missed having Edie to go and talk with and discuss garden plans. She was extremely courgeous and positive during all her illness and a great example for all.

Shortly after we adopted our baby daughter from China, my wife and I would take walks around our neighborhood in Tacoma's North End. It did not take long before we were stopping every evening to visit with Edie and her charming basset hound. They were both important connections to this new country for our daughter, and important neighbor-friends for us. Edie, you are missed by a great many people; thank you for your kind presence.

I know I am not alone in saying Edie brought light to the world. I work at Lucky Dog Outfitters where Edie brought Libbey often, mostly just to say hello, and brighten our day, especially on rainy days. I am sorry for your loss. Thank you Lord, for Edie. Blessings....

Christi and Pablo and Carmen, We want you to know how sorry we are about the loss of your Mother. We know how hard it is to lose your precious Mother. We also wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed visiting with Edie and getting to her. She was so much fun, and had such a positive and warm personality. She enjoyed life so much, and she was always interested in us and what we were doing. We felt that your Mother was a very special person, and we will miss her also. We hope you will take comfort in knowing that we have special memories of Edie. We are so glad that she was part of our life. We love you, Peggy and George

Even though we now live in AZ, our home is still down the street from Edie's on N.12th. Edie has kept track of us (and our home improvements) since 2001. We have always loved her straight shootin' approach and her huge heart. I have been so inspired by her spirit. Julie has always refered to Edie as ' my other girlfriend'. I am so glad that she and Liberty Bell befriended my mother in law Peg. They had great times together. We will miss her. Please raise a toast at Shenanigans Sunday for us.

Yard work, warm sunny days sitting on the front steps-late summer nights too, grilled onions with butter, dogs, watching her mow the lawn in her bikini - she was always so proud, laughter,Surprise Lake, minestrone soup, music - she was not the best singer, but loved it all the same, Chinese food, good conversation (gossip too)and a desire and willingness to be involved. Edie was my Mom, not my biological mom, but my neighbor Mom and I will miss her.
