Obituary of Karen Y. Smith

Karen Y. Smith (Patmore) was born on 11/10/60 in Everett, WA and passed away on 07/27/09 in Puyallup, WA with her family by her side. Karen attended Elmhurst Elementary, Keithley Jr. High, Washington High School and graduated from Franklin Pierce High School in 1979. She graduated from Bates Technical College and worked as a Dental Assistant for the past 20 years. In August 2008, while working full time, she graduated at the top of her class from Alexander School of Natural Therapeutics to be a Licensed Massage Therapist. Unfortunately, she never had the chance to take her State Exam due to being diagnosed with breast and bone cancer. Karen was known for her love of all animals. She always said that one day she wanted a farm where she could rescue animals and she really wanted to have a black and white pop belly pig. She had three pets, but she always referred to them as her “furry four-legged children.” Her furry children consisted of Bear the Beagle and her two cats, Tabby Cat and Monster. During her illness, Monster would always sneak into her room and sleep with her to comfort her. Everyone who knew Karen knew her love for Scooby Doo. If she saw something that had Scooby Doo on it, she bought it. Even on her locker at work she had it covered in Scooby Doo decals. Karen is preceded in death by her parents, Charles (01/15/94) and Freda Patmore (02/20/09). She is survived by her daughter, Sarah; brother, William (Sandra) Hooper; sisters, Janet Slavens, and Debbie (Kelly) Murphy, nieces, nephews, and cousins and her furry four legged children. Service to be held 11AM Monday 8/3 at Lakeview Chapel, 4606 108th St. SW, Lakewood, WA, interment to follow at Fir Lane Memorial Park. Arrangements by Edwards Memorial Center 253-566-1008.
