Obituary of Arlene Marie Mortensen

Arlene Marie (Turner) Mortensen was born July 13, 1940 in Happy Holler, Ohio to Raymond and Eta Turner. She died on ‘December 22, 2023 in Puyallup, WA at the age of 83. Arlene was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. We will be deeply missed by all who loved her.

Arlene was known for her warm hospitality and loving nature. She enjoyed hosting dinner parties, organizing baby showers, and providing transportation to those in need. She had a passion for cooking and was a “foody” before it became popular. She had a keen eye for finding treasures at antique and junk shows, and she was a movie enthusiast.

Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren, and her eyes would light up every time she saw them. She had a contagious laugh.

Arlene was a devoted mother to her daughters, Laurie Hamilton and Leslie Staggs, and a loving grandmother to Raeanna McMahan, Hillary Mills, Derek Morgan, Lark Mortensen, Samuel Pohl and Alexandra Pohl. She was also blessed with 10 great grandchildren.

Arlene is preceded in death by her father, Raymond C. Turner, her mother Eta V. Turner, her sister Leora Burleson, and her sister, Joanne Maine.

Arlene received her education in Ohio, attending Scioto Trail Elementary and Marion Franklin High Schools. She furthered her education at Columbus Technical College where she received her Secretarial Certification. She dedicated many years of her career as a secretary at Ohio State University and later at Eastern Washington University, where she eventually retired. She was valued for her hard work and dedication.

Arlene found solace and community in her faith. She worshipped at Williams Road church of Christ in Columbus, OH, Northside church of Christ in Spokane, WA, Springbrook church of Christ in Renton, WA and Puyallup church of Christ in Puyallup, WA.

In her free time, Arlene enjoyed antiquing, embroidery, crafting and watching movies. These hobbies brought her joy and relaxation throughout her life.

A Celebration of Life will be held on January 20, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Puyallup church of Christ. Family and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Orphan’s Lifeline in memory of Arlene - orphans lifeline.org.

Arlene Marie Mortensen touched the lives of many with her kindness, love and warm spirit. She will be remembered as a cherished friend, devoted family member and pillar of her community. We look forward to seeing her in Heaven.
