My twin brother Mike and I have fond memories of running with Dave (usually behind him) on the Downey cross country team. He was exceptional in academics as well as sports. I remember him as being calm and exceptionally mature. May his memory be a blessing. David Loeffler, Oak Park, Michigan.

Dave was my dentist for more than 15 years, when I lived in Tacoma. I was a Canadian citizen, and every 5 years my Canadian passport would come up for renewal. Because I was living in the US, someone "of stature" (doctor, lawyer or dentist) needed to sign a renewal document, and testify that I had not caused any trouble in the US. Dave was my "person of stature" every time, and he relished the role! I would call in advance to say that I needed my forms signed, and he would be ready with some hilarious questions, to make sure I had not done anything to cause embarrassment or trouble. We would laugh a lot. I loved him dearly.
When I moved up here to Vancouver BC in 2017, and had to find a new dentist, I filled out the form, including info about my former dentist. My dentist here knew Dave - said "he's one of the very best in the business."
My condolences to the Hansen family. Know that he was loved.

Dave and I met as roommates our Freshman year at PLU. We rapidly discovered a shared interest in photography and traveled extensively in the Western States and Canada with our cameras and my dog, Grover. When we moved into a farmhouse off-campus, our existence revolved around horses, tennis and our jobs at Clinkerdagger, Bickerstaff & Pett's Public House in downtown Tacoma on the shore of Puget Sound. When we were both accepted into dental schools in adjacent states, we were both anxious to pursue what we knew was our intended path, but we were a little reluctant to give up the lifestyle that we had been enjoying. Marriages and careers dominated our lives and guided us in parallel, but separate directions. However, it took only a phone call to transport us back to that idyllic time of total enjoyment with no obligations. I miss you, Spot, but boy howdy do we have memories. Rick (Jan) Johnson
Our thoughts and prayers are with you Kathleen, Stephen( Carly) and Kaitlin( Jared) . I hope the planted trees inspire someone else to view nature the way Dave and I did!

I knew Dave as a friend at PLU. He always had the most engaging smile and laugh and was so much fun to be around. He was a beautiful diver for the swim team and I marveled how he could enter the water with barely a ripple after numerous aerial twists and turns. I know he loved his dentistry and his patients and was a respected and skilled clinician. Many memories I will cherish and thoughts for his family.

One of my favorite memories of Dr. Hansen was going to his office for my annual checkup. There were always flowers in the waiting room. I thought what a beautiful jester. However, one morning I had the early appointment and beat Dr. Hansen to the office and here he comes with a beautiful bunch of flowers. I knew he himself had stopped to purchase the flowers and would arrange them later. What a wonderful human being he was to take the time and effort to start the day. I always appreciated the sight of his flowers. In later years I loved his photos hanging in the office. What a talent for beauty. He certainly picked the right career, and I will always think of him fondly for his kindness and friendship.

David was a true artist of hands-on and life. He has such an exquisite eye for detail, not to mention a wonderful heart. You can feel it in his children. From 1990 till now, I am still told I have been blessed with beautiful teeth. I tell them I am as Dr David Hansen designed, and installed, and his wonderful staff cares for them. We also shared a love of nature, animals, and birds. Sharing many stories.

That was a beautiful obituary/remembrance of David. I was so glad that I was seated next to David for 2 weddings in the last two months and was able to rekindle memories of our shared history. My love to David’s family.
Love, Jo Anne Gaspard.

I will never forget him getting a case of the giggles while working on my teeth. He was prepping a tooth for a filling and asked me if I was ready. I said “OK” in a way that reminded him of a movie scene with Joe Pesci. It took a few minutes for us to get it together so he could continue with the drill.
His laugh was infectious.
Such kind, compassionate and caring human being. He will be sorely missed.
