Obituary of Matthew Sanchez

Matthew (Matt) Sanchez, 56, passed away at home in Puyallup, WA surrounded by family, after a tough battle with ALS on August 20th, 2023. 

 

Matt was born in Gary Indiana on September 27th, 1966 to parents Sharon and Robert Sanchez.  He was married to his high school sweetheart and love of his life Jennifer Sanchez for 35 years, who passed away on June 8th, 2021.

 

Matt was an aircraft mechanic in the Air Force for 22 years, and retired as a Master Sergeant in 2008.  He continued to work on aircraft as a civilian for another 13 years at URS and Boeing.

The places he called home during his life were Portage IN, Alamogordo NM, Felixstowe UK, Tacoma WA, and Puyallup WA.

 

Matt was a selfless family man who sacrificed his entire adult life for his wife and kids.  He was a talented soccer player and an avid sports fan for his Chicago Cubs, Bears, Bulls, and Blackhawks, his Seattle Sounders, Arsenal Gunners, and WSU Cougars.  He loved adventuring in the outdoors, especially hiking, biking, and kayaking with his kids around Mt. Rainier in Washington State.

 

Matt was predeceased by his wife Jennifer, and his father Robert "Bob".  Matt leaves behind his son Christopher "Chris", his daughter Carolyn "Cari", her husband Robert Isaac, with his grandchildren Miya and Izayah; his mother Sharon, and his 4 brothers James "Jim", John, Michael "Mike", and Peter "Pete".

 

A military honors memorial will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent WA on Friday October 13th at 2:30pm.  In addition, a casual celebration of life will be held at STAR Center in Tacoma WA on Saturday October 14th from 12-4pm.
