Obituary of Roger David Aiken

Roger David  Aiken March 24th, 1946- July 14th, 2023

Born to David and Dora Aiken in Tacoma Washington on March 24,1946. He was the oldest of their four children. Big brother to Joe (Barry), Donnie and Doreen. He spent his school years in Manitou finishing out as one of the very first graduating class of Mount Tahoma. After graduation he enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves and was proud of his service to his country.

He met his wife Terry ( Smith) through the youth group at Manitou Church. They were married on April 11,1969. They have two daughters, Heather and Holly. Roger loved his family, animals, babies, and golf, not necessarily in that order depending on the day.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling to other states and golfing on different courses and in different tournaments. He achieved two holes in one. When golf was good it was very good, when golf was bad it was very bad. Luckily it was more good than bad.

He enjoyed fishing, bowling spending several years in the ABT,  picking the prefect watermelon, shopping at fruit stands, family events, yelling at the television from sports to C Span they were all given his opinion, but they never listened. He loved music, all sorts of music, which he played at deafening volumes (because they try to fool you with the hearing test and hearing aids are a scam). You always knew where you stood with him, he did not mince words, and he would tell you the truth even if it hurt.

He was generous and would quietly assist those in need. Kids who couldn’t afford 6th grade camp, all the neighborhood kids that didn’t have ice cream money for the ice cream man, the window installer who just started playing golf but didn’t have his own clubs (said the set he gave him was the biggest tip he ever received), and rescuing animals.

He would playfully torment those around him, his niece has said she is pretty sure she has already heard “knock it off Aiken” from Heaven.  We will miss his loud Ha followed by a snort, his exclamations of “Jeepers Creepers”, " whatcha doing kid?” and so much more. He is greatly loved and a force to be reckoned with.

He is preceded by his parents Dave and Dora, brother Donnie, multiple aunts, uncles and cousins, sister-in-law Kathy Schieno, and his mother and father in-law Louie and Roberta Smith.

Some of those left behind to remember him are:  His wife Terry, His brother Joe and Carol Aiken, His Sister Doreen and her son Donnie, His daughters:  Heather (Rick La Franchi)  Holly  (Steve Falk) Most loved and treasured grandson Adam Falk, Many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Till we meet again.

We would like to thank his nurse Paula for making sure he was comfortable in his chair the day he passed.  Your $1.98 is in the mail.
