Obituary of Lamberto Gallardo Casal

Lamberto “Onie” Gallardo Casal passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 14^th, 2023 at age 78.  He was born February 16^th, 1945 in Carmona, Cavite in the Philippines to Rustico Abad Casal and Carmelita Gallardo Samson.  During his early years, he lived for the moment and enjoyed playing basketball and spending time with his friends.  He briefly attended FEATI University, where he studied Aeronautical Engineering.  To start a new life, with the help of his mother, Onie immigrated here to the U.S. in the mid-80s where he quickly started an honorable career at Pacific Lutheran University, working as a custodian.  Through his years at PLU, he made many memories and forged many lasting friendships. Onie’s 37 years of dedication and service at PLU had continued up until shortly before his passing. 

During Onie’s off hours, he continued to create more memories with his best friend Ernie Abando and their many beloved ‘barkada’. He enjoyed laughing, telling stories, drinking and karaoke with his friends as well has hanging out at their family functions being the designated BBQ man. He enjoyed each and every moment with them and cherished all their friendships, as if they were his second family.

He loved cooking and cooked quite frequently for his mother before her passing.  He always made sure there was at least rice ready for the family before he left for his evening shift. Onie was a kind and simple man and was generous to all. He also had a way of always making you giggle or laugh.

Onie was preceded in death by his mother Carmen Casal. He is survived by his sister Dolly, brother Rey, and niece Mari and nephew John. He was dearly loved by his family, friends and coworkers and will be deeply missed. To honor Onie’s wishes, he had requested not to have any viewing or graveside services upon his death. The family will be planning a celebration of life tentatively scheduled for Saturday, July 15^th 2023. Time and location will yet be determined.  This will be a casual event to celebrate Onie’s life with food and memorable stories.
