Obituary of Martin Raymond Hines

Martin R. Hines died unexpectedly on June 2, 2023 ending a six year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Martin was born to Edward Hines and Mary (Pratt) Hines in Chicago, IL and raised in Tonopah and Carson City NV and Santa Clara, CA.  He graduated from Cupertino High School in 1965.  Shortly after graduation he married his high school sweetheart Sue (Sturtevant) Hines.  He is survived by Sue, his wife of 57 years, his daughter Shannon, his son Mark, his grandchildren Jeremy and Devin Jansa and Lily Hines as well as sisters Mary Kay Doherty and Madeline Knight and brothers Ed Hines and Randy Kelly. 

Martin completed his bachelor’s degree at San Jose State University and later earned a Master’s Degree from St. Martin’s College in Lacey, WA.

Martin worked as a Licensed Mental Health Therapist for 20 years prior to his retirement.  During that time, he served on the Pierce County Domestic Violence Commission and headed up the Domestic Violence Intervention Committee.

He had many interests during his life including archery, camping, boating, fishing, photography, birding, welding, and cycling. 

A celebration of life will be held on July 29^th from 2:00 to 4:00 at Tacoma Yacht Club, 5045 N. Highland St, Ruston, WA.
