Janice McAdams Johnson

Obituary of Janice Mary McAdams Johnson

Janice Mary McAdams Johnson was a truly kind and beautiful woman, inside and out, who was also a wife, a mother, a grandmother, an aunt, and a friend to many.  She loved life and embraced it with a positive spirit and appreciation. Jan was known for always greeting everyone she met with a smile.

Jan was born on May 30, 1935, in West Seattle, Washington where she lived until attending Central Washington University, where she met her future husband of 66 years, Ken Johnson. Jan and Ken were married and soon moved to Vashon Island, where they owned a successful appliance and TV store and raised their two sons, Kevin and Doug. Jan was a devoted and energetic mother who enjoyed all aspects of family life. She was a huge supporter of their boys’ many sports activities and other adventures. Later, Jan worked alongside Ken as real-estate investors and brokers. Vashon was a very special place for Jan’s family and provided the perfect opportunity for Jan to become an avid boater along with making many life-long friends and participating in numerous Vashon community events.

During their life together Jan and Ken also lived in Santa Rosa, California, and then in Tacoma, Washington at Browns Point, and later at Franke Toby Jones.  Jan was the Managing Broker for the Windermere real-estate company they owned in Enumclaw, Washington for a number of years.  Jan and Ken always had many friends in the places where they lived, and Jan continued expanding her circle of friends after Ken’s passing in May 2021.

Jan is survived by her brother Terry (Carol) and her two sons Kevin (Julie) and Doug (Sue), and her grandchildren, Bradley (Celina) and Michael, and Stephanie and Brett.  Jan was very special to her grandchildren and spent much time with all kinds of pursuits - reading, drawing, playing cards, baseball, and other games, travelling and just hanging out.  Jan followed her grandchildren’s sports and other activities throughout the years and was always a super fan and supporter. Jan also treasured all her nieces and nephews and spending time with her beloved family was a favorite activity.

An announcement for a celebration of life event is forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Franke Toby Jones. (Philanthropy Office: 5340 North Bristol Tacoma, WA 98407)

Jan was a remarkable woman who lived a life full of joy, love, and adventure. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, and she will live on in our hearts.
