Obituary for Rose Malmgren

Rose Kathryn Malmgren (Mosbrucker) was born March 1, 1922 in New Salem North Dakota, one of 13 children.  She passed away peacefully at her home three weeks after her 99th birthday on March 21, 2021.

Rose married Walter Malmgren on Dec. 5, 1942.

Rose was the bookkeeper and the gofer for the family business which included several different service stations.

She was a Master Gardener who loved growing vegetables and flowers.  She always had a beautiful garden.  Even when she moved into Brookdale Independent Senior Living, she grew her own spinach and lettuce on her front deck.

Rose and Walt belonged to the Tacoma Outboard Association and enjoyed many years of boating and camping on Puget Sound with their family.

In 1991, Rose and Walt moved from Tacoma to the Key Peninsula and became members of the Key Peninsula Seniors Group and loved to play Pinocle with the group.  Rose took her turn as Secretary and Sunshine Chairman of the group.  She also volunteered her time with the Key Center Angel Guild and the Key Peninsula Historical Society.

After Walter passed in 2001 Rose and Charley Williamson became friends and enjoyed each other’s companionship for about 15 years.

Rose is preceded in death by her husband Walter L. Malmgren and eleven of her thirteen siblings.  She is survived by her children, Sharon Carr (Dean Skaggs) of Tacoma, Richard Malmgren of Neilton, WA., Walter (Bill & Madeline) Malmgren of Tacoma, Jeffery Malmgren (Jessica) of Oak Harbor, WA, as well as 10 Grandchildren, numerous greatgrandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Rose made friends easily and was the life of the party. She was caring, wise and timeless; you could talk to her about anything! She leaves a hole in many hearts and will be greatly missed.
