Obituary of Cathy Lorene Brewer Goucher

Cathy passed away on January 10 at St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood, WA. She was 70 and had struggled with ill health for the past several years.

 

Cathy was born in Port Angeles, WA on May 16, 1949 to Bill and Hazel Bialik, and graduated Port Angeles High School in 1967.

 

In 1971, Cathy married Don Brewer in Kitsap, WA and they settled in Bremerton where their daughter Amy was born in 1976. Don died of cancer in 1981.

 

In 1982, Cathy married John Goucher, and, in 1983, their son Gregory was born. Cathy and John divorced in 1988, and soon after Cathy moved to Lakewood, WA.

 

Ever the independent spirit, it was always important to Cathy that she earn her own way. She began working at a local Port Angeles restaurant while still in high school and she worked continuously as a cook, server, or bartender in Bremerton and Lakewood until health problems forced her retirement in 2012.

 

As a child, Cathy was always creating. She would paint, make ceramics, and entertain her younger siblings with stories that she would think up on the spot. Though challenged by ill health for the past several years, Cathy never lost her sharp wit, and she continued to knit, create homemade Christmas ornaments, and connect with family and friends on social media.

 

One of the greatest joys of Cathy’s life was celebrating the birth of her grandson, Wesley Goucher, who was born on her birthday in 2019.

 

Cathy was predeceased by her parents Bill and Hazel Bialik, her husband Don Brewer, and her sister and best friend Marlee Genereux. She is survived by her son Gregory Goucher (Kerry Zimm) and grandson Wesley all of Seattle, daughter Amy Brewer of New York, NY, sister Cynthia Radford of Calistoga, CA, brothers Jeff Bialik (Mabel) of San Rafael, CA and David Bialik (Karen Matson) of Marysville, WA, brother-in-law Sam Genereux of Tacoma, WA and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.

 

A memorial service will be held at 5:30pm on Saturday, March 7 at the Lakewood Community Center, 9112 Lakewood Dr SW, Lakewood, WA 98499.
