Dana, my friend, you've left us way too soon. There were still things we had planned to do that for whatever reason, we didn't get the chance to.
And now, suddenly, you're gone... Forever.
We always had so much fun at the things we did, whether it was getting your nails done or grocery shopping or the laundromat, going to Tacoma or even a doctor's visit, it was always a good time, and Gabby usually went with us too. You were always making sure that everyone around you was feeling OK, that they had a smile their face, no matter how you were feeling, or hurting inside.
And birds were your life... I'll always remember how happy you were when we found my Rosa on a rescue site, and we took the trip (about 50 miles away) to go pick her up! How we had to really move things around to even get that big old cage into my explorer, and then we had to pick up Blaize too! He didn't have much room left for him. There's some great memories about that trip... And yes I do still have Rosa, even though she fell madly in love with my husband within the week of when she arrived here! She doesn't want anything to do with me anymore, Goofy bird. But about 6 months later I ended up getting my own bird, and I really love that little girl! She stole a piece of my heart within a very short time of when I met her. But, you started it all, lol. You did more good for others than you ever knew...
I truly believe in my heart that your pain is finally gone now and that you're up there making people smile, waiting for the day that we'll meet again and be able to laugh to our hearts content. You've always been one very special lady and I do miss you every day that goes by. A bright spark went out the day you left us. I'm sure that YOU'RE doing fine, it's just the rest of us that feel your absence so sharply...
Blaize and Greg, and Dana's sister (I'm sorry I don't know your name) my heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dana took her place in my heart, my little cousin, when We came to Washington on the train from Wyoming to spend time with family here .
Only once before, we played with Dana. I think, when she came with Grandma, Robbie and Cindy to our farm ( but my memory isnt sure, lol I was so young)
The next time, My little cousin Dana took a spot in my heart, forever, because of her heart!
My sister and I anxiously sat on the stairs of our uncle greg and aunt connies house. Little kids in a big house, big city far from home. It was hot and Lennis and Dana were running through the sprinkler. Dana came running up to us, smiling and happy and in her navy one piece swim suit asked us to join her and why didnt we have flip flops? Then she proceeded to run screaming to her mom that we needed to go get some for us.
She did go boldly, bravely in action to what she wanted.
She spoke and lived true to herself. Not many of us can say that. She was an expert swimmer!!!!! Could hold her breath forever underwater. And did the most realistic dead mans float.
She was maybe part fish. Lol
Life is difficult and mostly its from other people we get most hurt. I wish I could have protected her from much of what I saw and heard she went through.
I was older, hung out more with Lennis when we did all get together. But life took us all different directions and we each made our own.
I heard too many times Dana was shunned for her choices. I stayed away from her for many years with warnings from trusted family heads.
I finally decided to stop ignoring the worry in my heart and invited Dana to my home. I wanted her to know she was worth much to me, regardless of past .
I wanted to make sure “she had flip flops”!
While she lived with me, I was fortunate to see how really brilliant she was. How she thought she wasn't!!!
Somewhere on her path, her confidence and pure bravery had been distorted!!
It was the worst! Seeing that somehow or by someone her blessings were twisted to a point that made here doubt her actual real value. Her intelligence ( and she was extremely intelligent) was inaccessible to her because of her self doubt.
That was not Dana.
I curse the ugly and dark that stole her true self!!
I morn the rest of us because we lost the light she could have shined! I wanted to see her bloom!!
She got fricken stomped!!
So, on that note. I love you Dana, Im sorry we didnt do better by you. I will always love and miss you!!!!
Be you now!!!
No more cruelty. No more lonely or poor or worry. No more judgement.
Ill see you someday again if Im lucky! Stay out of trouble silly!!
Hugs and love,
Your Cousin
Chrissy
