Obituary of Sally Jo Johnson

Sally Jo (Chevron) Johnson

Sally was born on May 24, 1960 in Hood River, OR and passed away on April 24, 2019 at home in Maple Valley, WA – peacefully in her sleep.

It was a valiant battle by a very strong and faithful follower of God. If we can share one thing of note, in the seven year fight with cancer, she never once was afraid to die as Heaven is her resting place. She has been courageous to the end. Fighting and clinging on to every precious moment she could with each of you. “Let your unfailing love surround us Lord, for our hope is in you alone” Psalm 33:22. Friends, she believed this; Pick up, Raise up and Rise up those around you – for all glory goes to God! In all that you do, remember you truly can make a difference in people’s lives for the better. The mark Sally has left on the lives that she has been blessed to be a part of is immeasurable. If it was worth doing, it was worth doing well and her greatest passion was her kids and all that represented.

Sally is survived by Mike, her loving husband of 28 years, and sons Derek 26 and Reed 23. She is preceded in death by her father Gerald Chevron and mother Barbara (Moore, Chevron) Norton and her step father Robert Norton. She leaves sisters, Sherrie Chevron, Susan (Chevron) Lucas, step-sisters Nancy Mathews, Carrie Billings, Sheryl Graves and step brother Rob Norton and their families.

A few fun facts that many knew already; Sally met Mike on a blind date in 1990, she knew she would marry the man who would give her a dozen roses and later that summer, she got a rose a day for 5 days and welcoming her at the restaurant table was a bundle of 7 at dinner - she knew she would marry him. She was the “best scorekeeper ever”, just ask coach Jerry. At the drop of a hat Sally could fix you a meal, care for your kid or go on a walk (and walk you to the ground). If you needed to know of a special event, Sally was certain to send you a text with that important person in your life’s big day. She would keep her group connected.

Sally was forever energized by the outpouring of love and encouragement by all of her friends and family, and we thank you for that! In her season of “lasts” she truly looked forward to special events that filled her calendar every three weeks or so and so many of you were a part of that. Thank you for all of your presence and support.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, May 18th 2 pm - 4 pm at New Community Church in Maple Valley in the Gathering Place. Feel free to forward or share this information with your family and friends. Any honorary donations on Sally’s behalf will be shared with New Community Church Father’s Day Fishing Derby, Vine Maple Place of Maple Valley and the N.C.C. Welcome / Reception Table.
