Obituary of Thelma Jean Myrick

Born March 19, 1917 in Wichita, Kansas to Harry Morton and Ruth Minnie (Crowell) Rogers and passed away October 1, 2009 in Tacoma , Washington . She was preceded in death by her husband Louis H. Myrick. Jean was raised in Wichita, spending her first year in high school in Garden City and graduating from Wichita North High School. After business school, she worked at GMAC and Coleman Industries. She met and married Louis Myrick September 30th, l946, following his return from service in the Navy during WWII. The couple and their daughter Pamela lived in Wichita where Jean was a homemaker and part time worker in several businesses. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church. Beginning in 1974, Louis and Jean lived in Dallas , Texas for ten years where Jean worked in a clothing store and the couple attended North Dallas Presbyterian Church. They moved back to Wichita to be near family. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1996. In 1998, Jean moved to the Seattle , Washington area where she attended Lake Forest Park Presbyterian Church. In 2006, she moved to Narrows Glen Retirement Community in Tacoma and then to Baybridge Family Home. Her interests included music, nutrition, politics, reading and shopping. She was an elegant and loving lady who will be very much missed by family and friends. Jean was 92 at her death. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Baybridge and Narrows Glen for their loving care of Jean and to Multicare Hospice for their kind assistance. Jean is survived by her loving daughter, Pamela (Ralph) Neighbor; sister, Wilda Lee Wind; 4 grandchildren, Emily (Scot) Calkins, Meredith (James) Detwiler, Erin ( Anna Lyons ) Neighbor; Abigail (Joshua) Friant; 2 great-grandchildren, Eden Moriah Detwiler, Jocelyn Blythe Friant; Andrew Call; and numerous extended family and friends. Service to be held 1:00 PM, Monday, October 5, 2009 at Neighborhood Church, 2802 Bridgeport Way W., University Place, WA 98466. Viewing 1 hour before service. Arrangements by Edwards Memorial Center 253-566-1008. The Internment is at Lakeview Mausoleum, Wichita .
