Obituary of Mary Monica Gausta

Mary was born in Nampa, ID to Conrad and Agnes Winter in 1918. She graduated from Nampa High School and Links School of Business in Boise. During WWII, Mary worked at the Bremerton Navy Yard where she met and married her husband, Lloyd. They were married for 64 years when he died. Lloyd and Mary had three daughters and lived as a family during Navy assignments in Adak, AK and Arlington, VA until they settled in Gig Harbor, WA in 1955. While raising her family, Mary worked at Scandia Gaard, Thriftway Bakery and Peninsula State Bank. She enjoyed knitting, playing cards, puzzles, bowling and decorating her home with items from the family’s Norwegian heritage. Mary loved to travel with Lloyd and together they visited China, Japan, Hawaii and Norway including a cruise through the fjords to the North Cape. They also cruised the St Lawrence and Columbia Rivers and visited at least two-thirds of the United States. Mary was a loving mother to her three girls and her family was important to her. Mary (Grammy) will be missed by a brother, William (Bill) Winter of Nampa Idaho; daughter, Darlene Dickson of North Bonneville, WA; daughter, Jeanne Campen of Gig Harbor, WA; daughter Marianne Altenburg of Dillon, MT; three sons-in-law: Pollard Dickson, Carl Campen, Dave Altenburg; six grandchildren: Richard Dickson, Conrad Dickson, Megan (Campen) Hankel, Ashley Dickson, Nathan Campen, and Garrett Altenburg; and two great-granddaughters: Jordan Dickson and Alexandra Dickson. Mrs. Gausta was a member of the Saint Nicholas Catholic Parish in Gig Harbor . She was active in her community and enjoyed her many friends over the years. Mary passed peacefully on Saturday, January 28th in Gig Harbor . According to her wishes there will be no memorial service. Arrangements by Edwards Memorial 253-566-1008.
