Esther was one of my favorite people because of her beautiful and strong spirit. Esther was the wife of my father's first cousin, so our 'relationship' was not close. Living so far away made our contact sporadic - usually a Christmas card to her and a call from her in return. Though we didn't talk often and I last saw her six years before her death, I always held her in my heart as a great friend. I know she loved her family very deeply and they loved her. I loved her too and the world is not quite as bright a place today because she is no longer here - except in our hearts and memories.

I'll never forget the day I met 'Grammy.' It was at the salon. Three generations crossed the lobby: Grammy, Bev and Jeannene. All three were wearing huge dangle hoop earrings. It was so cute, to see 3 snazzy women, each generation modeled after the one before. Strong women with a sense of self, carrying on the legacy of beauty, humor, and a zest for life. Grandmothers provide so much in our lives. Their importance can not be overestimated. They are role models who's subtle way of interacting with the world we pick up on at an early age. And that unconditional love settles deep in our core giving us a solid sense of self esteem that cannot be uprooted. We carry it with us always. And a good work ethic. And our grandmothers show us by example,to nurture beauty in our homes, yards, lives. They eminate love that many generations benefit by. They understand us because they too were once our age. Is there no greater acomplishment than to live a good life 'till age 99? I can think of none...

I will always remember how happy Grammy was every time we visited. I'm thankful for every moment I had with her, and so sad that I cannot be there to celebrate her life with the rest of the family. Praise God for the impact she made on us all.

I was one of Grammys renters...28 years ago! She was just a lovely neighbor! She came over at 6:00 AM to watch my first born while I went to the hospital to have my 2nd son! What a gal! The last time I saw her was shortly after the featured picture was taken. She looked like the queen, all dressed and pearled! We had tea. Blessings to the family as you share stories of her wonderful presence in all you lives! I bet you'll laugh alot, because she was funny!
