Obituary of Madeline Sienda

Madeline, age 82, of Renton, WA passed away peacefully with her family present after having a stroke and battling cancer. Growing up during the Great Depression, Madeline was the 2nd of three children who grew up in Hollywood, CA. She is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, John Sienda Jr., is survived by sons Patrick and Michael, daughter Anita and husband Kevin Beninger and grandchildren Vigo and Bayonne, daughter Angela and husband Ted Musha and grandson, John; sister Joan and husband Ed Labelle and Brother Jim McGreal. Preceding her in death were Madeline’s parents; James McGreal and Mary Mulryan. Madeline was born in Hollywood, CA and later moved to Seattle when she was ten years old because her father’s employer, Florsheim Shoes, transferred him. She attended Immaculate Heart Grade School and Holy Angels High School. She served as a library aide in the Ballard Carnegie Library. She attended Seattle University and received a Bachelor’s Degree in teaching at the University of Washington and received a Master’s Degree in Library Science. Madeline met her future husband, John Sienda at a dance in Seattle and married in 1958. Madeline worked as a teacher and as a librarian in several schools. Later she worked a Sundstrand Data Control and retired from the Twin Rivers Prison in Monroe. Madeline loved to go antique shopping and was an avid collector of children’s books, miniature oil lamps and dolls. She enjoyed gardening and was always proud of her flowers. Madeline loved traveling and traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, Central America, and the Caribbean. In 2003 she lost her beloved John to Alzheimer’s disease. In 2008 she moved to Tacoma to be near her family and had a wonderful time in her condo with a beautiful view of Commencement Bay. The last 6 months of her life were spent between her daughter Angela’s house and her condo in Tacoma. She enjoyed getting out, getting her nails done, getting massages, and doing fun things with her caregiver Toni Huntley. Many thanks to Multicare Hospice team and her fabulous caregiver Toni who gave her a wonderful end of life experience. The Funeral Mass and celebration of her life will be held on Friday April 23rd at 11a.m. at St. Madeline’s Sophie Church, 4400 130th Place S.E., Bellevue, WA. (425) 747-6770. Celebration to follow at church. Internment at a later date at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 S.E. 240th St., Kent, WA.
