Obituary of Walter Ray Root

Walter was born on April 30th 1949. After a courageous five year battle with cancer, he passed away at home March 5th 2010. He was preceded in death by his mother Gertrude, son Christopher, stepdaughter Katie and brother Michael. Walter is survived by his father Clarence Root (Carlene) of Montana, wife Sheila of University Place, son Rene Root of Michigan. Stepsons Monte Lee Mauch of Michigan, Patrick Bertucci of University Place WA, John Bertucci of Vashon WA, Mike Bertucci of University Place WA. Stepdaughter Meggie Bertucci of Gig Harbor WA. Brothers Roger Root (Darlene) of Montana, and Edward Root. Two sisters Susan Celander of Montana and Beverly McGuire of Idaho, and his favorite “Aunt Betty” of Montana. He is also survived by Grandsons; Benjamin Mauch, Austin Mauch, Jordon Fus, Dominick Fus, Nick Bertucci, Kjell Bertucci, James Black- Root and Granddaughters; Chelsea Mauch, Tristen Root, Summer Root, Rorie Root, Chelsea Bertucci, Gabby Bertucci, Kailee Drugge, Hailey Bertucci, and Mandy Bertucci. He also had many loved nieces and nephews. He grew up as a young boy in Miles City, Montana and joined the U.S. Army as soon as he graduated from High School. He attended MDA Welding School in 1973, and became an Ironworker in 1974. Walt retired from Ironworkers Local 86, Seattle, WA in 2004. Walter participated in a number of activities. He was an avid golfer, loved to fish, hunt and garden. His three greatest passions were golfing with the “guys”, watching football and going out to “play guns” with his buddies. He was a member of the Gig Harbor Sportsman Club, Kitsap Rifle and Revolver and shot IDPA competition. The family would like to thank the Franciscan Hospice in University Place, WA for the wonderful care they gave Walter during the last journey of his life. A very special thank you to our nurse Cathy for all of her care, support and compassion. Loving and missing you Walt. You will forever be in our hearts. Per Walter’s request there will be no funeral service.
