In the early evening of Hilo, Hawaii's beautiful tropical sunset seven-year old Precious Alohalani Ida (great-granddaughter) lovingly opened a memorial service which was simultaneously performed in Hawaii (Hilo Bay) and Dash Point Washington (Commencement Bay). These were her words; 'Heavenly Father, we thy people stand before you to celebrate and mourn the passing of Ruth DuBois Grandma GG Weigel. We ask thee Heavenly Father that you peer down upon this memorial service in Hilo and in Dash Point and find it pleasing in thy sight. Open up the windows of Heaven and send down your angels to gather our grandma and take her home. In Jesus name we pray now and forevermore. Amen.' Then thirteen-year old Taislynn (great granddaughter)added; 'Ruth DuBois Weigel was many things. We knew her as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. I am sure God has great plans for her. Thank-you Grandma GG for all the laughs, sighs, hugs and Love. We are going to miss you.' The Lord's Prayer was said out loud and then Charlene sang the hymn 'Praise God' in Hawaiian. Thirteen fragrant flower leis and two long stem red roses were then kissed and tossed into the ocean. As the tides carried our leis farther out to sea we all hugged and knew we were going to miss her with all our hearts.

Teri,Rex and Joni, Our prayers are with you and your families as you go through such a difficult time. I want to thank-you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your Mom with not only our family but a community. In all the highlights of my entire life Mrs. W. was a part of the event. She brought such laughter, interesting conversation, great side-dishes, and the deepest of empathy. No matter what the occasion Ruthie was always there for our family. Mom was so grateful to have such an amazing best friend, they went through so much together, but thank God they had one another! Mrs.W. thank-you for being straight forward, your outspoken charism kept me from not making as many bad choices in life as I could have, I quivered at the thought of possibly having to answer honestly to you. Ruthie's positive and chin up attitude well forever be an inspiration to me. God bless you all, Love, Linda

Though it has been many years since I have seen Aunt Ruth my memories of her are nothing but good. Staying with them when we were young gave us all memories that I still cherish. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. Rest assured she will aways be at your side and in our hearts. God bless.

My entire childhood was spent across the street from the house Ruth and Tony later bought. I kept in touch with them through my sister Dolores and her husband Paul Young, they lived next door to Ruth in his grandparents former house. My brother George Stenberg and my dear sister-in-law Bonnie lived right behind the Lobster shop. Bonnie, still lives there. My brother passed on but he and Ruth used to argue about anything for hours. The house Ruth and Tony bought was really old and in need of major work. They put their dreams, hearts, time and money into the house, fought for front waterfront land and won. It was a beautiful home and I am so happy Ruth got to be in her home until the very end. What a blessing. Joni, your tribute to your mother in behalf of your family was very heart warming to read, as she was all that you said. I am sorry that I didn`t know Ruth was sick. I haven't been back to Dash Point, the place where as a kid, they all called me the running board kid( yes, cars had running boards)because my dad would not let me sit in a boy`s car. Ruth will be joining Tony, my husband Mac, and my brother George, will all get together in Heaven. LET THE GLASSES CLICK AND THE THUNDER ROAR AS THE HEAVENS WILL ROCK TONIGHT. OUR GOD, WILL PROTECT YOU ALL. SEE YOU LATER WHEN I RECEIVE HIS WORD..

Like a letter to the editor, most keep their opinions at home and never have them published, and those are the ones that probably need to be heard. I rarely speak up, until today. My experience around the home was measurable and pleasurable. Initial visits to the home, for me , were trepidatious at first until I recogonized I just had to stand my own against this foxy, witty lady. I always left feeling a part of it. I remember warmth passion, wit and intellect. Those enchanting and sparkling eyes she passed on to her offspring was good for me. They raised their children to be proud and confident, of this I'm sure, we should all be so fortunate.

We moved to Dash Point in 1966, Paul was our neighbor & we met Ruth at that time. Thinking of all the good Beach Bum times we shared, our son Doug, taking salmon & gooey ducks to Ruth & she also loved Doug's Skipper dog. Our daughter, Jolene, remembers all the fun times too. She has lived in Kona, Hi for 28 years & still loves the beach. Ruth always had hugs for us & now we send her & you 3 kids hugs too.
