Obituary of Maribeth Gordon

Maribeth (Wesselman) Gordon My Mom, Maribeth, passed peacefully in her sleep March 15, 2012. Born in Bonesteel, South Dakota on February 5, 1936, to Suzanne and Ernest Wesselman, she was one of six children. She moved to Tacoma with her family in 1949, but always called South Dakota home. She graduated from Stadium High School and continued throughout her life to be very involved with her class. She is survived by me, her daughter, Lisbeth and my husband Shane Stull. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews Michelle Vaughan, Rene’ Vaughan, Tom Wesselman, Amy Wesselman, Eric Wesselman, and Kelly Rupert. She had an enormous extended family and circle of friends that will miss her sense of humor, eagerness to do just about anything, and fun loving ways. When there was an opportunity to gather she was often the first to arrive, the last to leave, and the one that provided delicious food and treats to share. My Mom could do anything she set her mind to accomplish! Her resourcefulness and talent is evident in most of our family and friends’ homes in the furniture she refinished, the treasure she found junking (“that just looked like you” she would say), or the recipe she introduced to you on your last visit together. Maribeth loved to gamble at the Emerald Queen in Fife and the Red Wind Casino. She was extremely successful and I know she will be missed by her friends there as well. I know my Mom was greeted at the Rainbow Bridge by all of her pets. She enjoyed pets her entire life and is so happy now to give them a pat and a love once again. Although I will miss Mom immensely each day, I know we will meet again someday and I will tell her that although it was difficult to lose her so quickly, I am eternally grateful that she did not suffer and slipped from this life gracefully, and in peace. The service to celebrate the life of Maribeth Gordon will be on Wednesday, March 28th at 1:00 pm. It will be held at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 205 E. 96th Street. There will be a luncheon in the Parish Hall following the service. Please consider a donation to All Saints’ Episcopal Church.
