Obituary of Jack Allen Moore

Jack Moore of Allyn, Washington died Wednesday March 24th 2010 after a long battle with lung cancer. Jack was born at home in the hills of West Virginia in Wood County, on November 10th 1942 to Frederick and Julena Moore. He was the first of five children born at home with the help of a midwife. His last two siblings were born in the hospital. He was born during a World War II blackout. Jack is survived by his wife, Cheryl of 28 years. Cheryl followed Jack around the United States for a few years prior to his retirement from the Navy with her two children. Jack is survived by those two children Kelli (Scott) McNees of Poulsbo, WA and Michael (Tonya) Finnigan of Chruchville, NY. He also leaves behind three grandchildren Talan Finnigan, Alexi Finnigan, and Kassidy McNees and two godsons Michael and Dylan. Jack was the oldest boy with five brothers James (Judy), John, Fred (Deb), Brian and one sister Francis Winemiller. Jack is survived by those siblings, numerous relatives in Washington and West Virginia. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jerry, and his two boys Mark and Eric. Jack is a veteran of the Vietnam War and served honorably for twenty-one years in the US Navy. Jack, Cheryl, Kelli, and Michael lived in several locations before settling in Belfair/Allyn area in 1986. Jack spent a few years working at PSNS before a nearly fatal car accident in 1990 caused him to make a few life changes. Jack attended college for two years and worked at the Kitsap Recovery Center. He retired from the Recovery Center in 2006. After that Jack became a professional volunteer. He helped at his church and spent several hours gathering donations for Faith In Action. Jack enjoyed preparing and participating in Koinonia weekends. Jack was an AA sponsor. He said helping others get sober helped maintain his 22 years of sobriety. He was fun to be around and always made everyone smile with his jokes and pranks. We felt the prankster should go out in style, so his service will be Thursday, April 1st at 1:00pm. The service will be held at Assembly of God Church 23001 NE State Route 3 Belfair. Donations can be made to Christ Lutheran Church or Faith In Action.
