I know John through his son Larry. We dated back when we were 18yo. I havent had much contact with the family since Larry and my break up but I do know of John being a warm hearted, fun loving man. He was a great father and taught his sons the morals of life. He was like another dad to me, he would do anything for anyone. He will be greatly missed but I do hold a lot of memories with him and the family dear to my heart. I think about you all often. Keep in touch via email or 253-273-2329

Semper-Fi old cousin. My family will always remember that wounderful night we spent together over dinner, last year. It was fun getting cought up in family affairs, wish we had done it more often. I can remember how proud John was when he was in the Marines, and how much flack he gave me for going into the Navy. But also the respect he had for me when he found out I was a Corpsman with his 'Band of Brothers' One by one we depart this world for a much better one. Our families who went before us will join us in heaven with open arms and guide us to meet the Savior.

When John first joined the King County Sheriff's Department, I was his Sgt. Later, John joined the department's Riot Squad, called the Tac-30 unit. I was his supervisor. We formed an elite unit within the riot platoon called the 'Black Hats.' John asked to join this unit, knowing that he would be subjected to many extra hours of training on his own time, with the rest of us. John was accepted and passed all of the grueling training. Of course, being a 'Black Hat' meant that you were going to be the 'tip of the spear,' when rioters were confronted. Of course, this was during the Vietnam war protests. John, as well as the rest of us, got his share of being at the tip of that spear, to include the confortation in downtown Seattle on the Freeway I-5. John became a Detective later on his career and I sort of lost track of him; however, he was still a friend, etc. After John retired from the department, I was aware that he was very active in 'Gun Rights and the NRA. When he visited Seattle, we often had lunch or visited. I also saw John at the Retired Officers luncheons & Dinners. As a matter of fact, John attended the Retired Officers Christmas Dinner at the Muckelshoot Casino on 12 December 2007. He sat at our table. He was in good spirits and had lost a lot of weight. We had a good visit and talked over 'old times.' Farewell old friend, you'll be missed! 'Semper Fi'

Dear Barbara, John, Larry and all of the family. I was very saddened to hear of John's passing. Although we had lost personal contact these past years, the years we were together working the South End came immediately to mind; and made me smile. No matter the circumstances I always knew your John 'had my back'. And parked door-to-door in some dark alley exchanging ideas that some times actually worked are priceless moments. Gone now, but never truly forgotten. With all the family I share my prayers and thoughts. Sgt.Mel Woods

I FIRST MET JOHN WHEN HE WAS WORKING IN A ICE CREAM STORE ON ROXBURY AV IN WHITE CENTER. ALL HE WANTED WAS TO BE A DEPUTY SHERIFF. HE & I ENDED UP BEING PARTNERS FOR A YEAR. HE LOVED HIS JOB & WOULD WORK LATE JUST BECAUSE HE DIDN'T WANT HIS SHIFT TO END. HE WILL BE MISSED!
