He was married to his wife Norma for 44 years. They first met in the Philippines at Clark Air Force Base while he was stationed there. Norma had 2 children Tess and Erwin and Darrell had 2 children Michael and John. Darrell and Norma fell in love and got married in December 1967 and adopted each others children and became a family. Later after being married 7 years, in 1974 they had a daughter together Doris. He was a father of 5 and a papa of 7. Darrell was in the Marine Core and served 8 years. During his duty in the Marine Core he fought in the Vietnam War. He then got out of the Marine Core and enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he also fought in the Vietnam War. He was in the Air Force for 21 years. His last tour of duty was at RAF Alconbury, England where he had asked to be stationed there so he could be with his side of the family for the last 4 years of duty. He retired in 1985 at RAF Alconbury, England. He then moved his family back to Washington State where he choose to retire. After his retirement from the Air Force, he got a job at McNeal Island as an instructor to the imates for welding. He worked for McNeal Island for three years and then got a job, with the Department of Defense at Fort Lewis Washington as Public Works. He had retired from the Department of Defense in 2005 since then he had done a lot of traveling all over the world and loved to go fishing with his boys when they had time. His favorite place to go to was the Philippines with his wife Norma where the Plummer and Mucha family built a vacation home. Unfortunately he was unable to make his trip to the Philippines with his wife last February because his heart problems had gotten worse and was advised by the doctors to wait until after his bypass surgery. Things in life happen for a reason and it is something that we cannot control. God has a plan for all of us. When, Darrell got sick he had the Lord and Hope to hold on to. Through all his 65 days in the hospital he remained strong and had faith. Darrell kept fighting for his life through so much pain. But, he felt he needed to so he could live and stay with his family. Until, June 15th 2009 when the doctors had said everything was starting to shut down in his body and that he had a 5 percent chance to live, he had told his wife and kids it was ok and he was ready to go and he was at peace because he saw the Lord. Darrell is a man of his word, honorable, well respected, kind, a great husband, a wonderful father, and a loving papa. All he wanted in life was to be happy and love his wife, kids, and grandkids. He was a hard working man and hero. Darrell will forever be in our hearts and he will always be remembered as a genuine person.
