I worked with Marge at the Monterey Jazz Festival for many, many years. She and I hit it off early, from the time I corrected her on a quote she had wrongly attributed. I think she admired me from then on. At least until I started playing tricks on her with her Sunday crossword puzzle. She and Merrilee Trost seemed to have a crossword competition on Sundays, so I had a paper delivered to each of them every Sunday of the jazz festival. Then I started playing with her crossword . . . cutting it out of the paper . . . not including the section with the crossword . . . partially filling it out. It became a highlight of our festival weekend. She was a very intelligent person and I enjoyed being with her immensely. I have missed her ever since she stopped working at MJF. I'll miss her now that she's gone.

Marge was truly one of a kind and will be sorely missed. I'm thankful I had the chance to get to know her through my work as Jazz Education Director at the Monterey Jazz Festival. She knew how to run things...that's for sure, and we loved her for it!

Marge- our time was short but I'm really glad I got to know you and you could be a part of our lives. I'm really happy you got to be there for Nick and spend many holidays, and birthdays with him. He wil forever love and miss you. You will always be his favorite 'old lady'. Your enthusiasm for life was so infectious, and ill miss 'dirty' humor, you always found a way to make me laugh. Ill love and miss you everyday.

I will miss Marge's humor, her drive to learn new things at any age and her friendship. Even when she was feeling bad she still could crack a joke about it. She was an honest critic of art and of life. She cared for others, people who she knew and whole groups of people she would never meet. She was a big believer in social justice. Nothing is gained or lost in physics, only rearranged. May the particles that once were Marge grace the universe.

For nearly two dozen years, Marge was a fixture of The Spellbinders, Inc., a group of science fiction writers in Sonoma County, CA. Marge did not do any writing herself; she just liked to hear the material read and serve as a witness to the creation process. Having been around her every other week for years on end, it was obvious to me that she had a tremendously interesting background and personal history, but she always declined to say much about it. She was a trove of treasure. It hurts me to know this, because it reinforces what a loss to the world we suffer with her passing.

I first met Marge at my first Spellbinder meeting in the late 80s; reason I couldn't remember the precise date was due to my hyper thyroid condition. Even in that hazy condition, in my poor reading of my first story, Marge had the right tact in gently critiquing a new member's entry. Her honesty and sensitivity never waver throughout the years, not even when she left Sonoma County. If anything, her memory still remain within all of us, regardless of location.

When Marge first moved back to Tacoma, I don't think any of us knew what to expect. What we gained was a family member we all really enjoyed getting to know better. Many hours were spent driving her around and helping her around the house, and during that time I got to know probably the most interesting and incredible people I'll ever have the pleasure of knowing. I'm very happy I was able to come see you Saturday. I'll miss seeing you but I know you are better now. I love you Marjorie.
