What is a friend? A friend is Emily, one who makes you a better person just for knowing her. When you are laid up for six weeks after surgery a friend calls everyday to see how you are. She brought so much love and joy to my life and her absence created my winter of discontent. However, her gifts continue in memories so profound they sustain me. Her family & Harold were her world and gifts she shared. My family knew her and mourn my loss. She left us Harold; and Ross and I cherish his friendship. Thank you Emily.

I will always remember how much friendship and comfort You & Emily gave my Dad during his illness. Emily was a constant source of strength for Mom as she dealt with the loss of my Dad. Emily's positive example has shown us how important family is. We will miss her.

I believe God sends us special friends to share our lives. Very special friends like Emily and Harold. Friendship is the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person, having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words. Each friendship is unique and a special gift from God. Emily and I exchanged many years of comforting words, some with tears but a lot of laughing. I would like to share part of a story I read called 'YOUR DASH There was a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on her tombstone. From the beginning...to the end. He noted that first came her date of birth, and spoke the following date with tears. But, he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years. 1943---2010 For that dash represents all the time that she spent alive on earth. And now only those who knew and loved her know what that little line is worth For it matters not how much we own. What matters is how we love and live. And how we spend our DASH...' My heart is broken and I miss her.

Dear Harold and family: It is with sadness and regret to hear of Emilys passing. I feel very fortunate to have known both of you and had the opportunity to work with Emily for a number of years, she was always fair, honest and good to those who worked with her. Emily truly was quite a lady who will be missed by all who knew her. Our thoughts go out to the family. Jim & Carol Drake

Saying goodby is never easy and although we weep and mourn your departure from our lives and this world, I also celebrate your arrival into Heaven. I was thinking that you should not keep Verna waiting, while you fought so bravely in the hospital my dearest Auntie Em. I shall miss you so very terribly until we meet again. Your strength, steadfastness, fearce determination, loyalty, loving manner, class, regalness are just some of your qualities that I admire. I can only strive to try to be more like you. I love you Auntie Em! God Bless! Thoughts and Prayers are with you Uncle Harold and family! **Hugs**

Dear Harold and family, You're all close in thought, our heartfelt sympathy goes out to you. Emily was a dear friend. The kind of friend who would offer her home if you needed a place to stay. The kind of friend who would stand by you, even if you were wrong! The kind of friend who always built up your self esteem. In other words, a rare friend, indeed. After a lot of crying, I decided that, 'One can cry because of the loss or one can smile because she lived.' Godspeed, Emily Love, Judy and Carl

Your influence was world-wide. Your love of family extended across the sea and was and still is deeply felt by Zoe, Garrett, Bernard and myself. I hope it will continue to extend across the heavens. You were a gift.

I have many fond memories of my Aunt Emily as a young boy . Her energy, her sense of humor, her love of family and friends, stays with me even today. I recall my mother and her being very close and they were fierce supporters of each other. I feel some comfort knowing they are together again. I think the most remarkable thing is even though they both faced many challenges as young women raising a family, all of my childhood memories recall these early years as the best of my life. As young children we were wrapped in love and kindness and the outside world was never allowed to frighten or worry us. Emily's love, honesty, determination, her unique but always genuine sense of humor, is an inspiration to all of us. Love You Aunt Emily, Rick

She was a wonderful friend...There are no better friends in the world. She was an all around outstanding woman, in her business accumen, as a friend and as a mother and grandmother, as a wife and homemaker. She excelled at all she undertook and her bravery in the face of an incurable disease was nothing short of inspiring. We love her and we love you, Harold. Our thoughts are always with you.
