Obituary of Marlene Sand

“A good heart has stopped beating...” Marlene ‘Oma’ Sand, aged 70, went home to be with the Lord on November 5th, 2010. Marlene was born on June 5th, 1940 in Traben-Trarbach, Germany to Walter & Helene Bauer. She came to the United States in 1963 as an Air Force bride after marrying Gary Sand in 1962. Marlene worked as a florist, a childcare provider and in retail sales over the course of her life but her true calling was as a mother and grandmother. She was amazingly generous in every way and the delight of her days was to spend time with her grandchildren and other children who claimed her as their honorary Oma. Possessed of a great sense of humor she was also a talented knitter and loved spending time in her yard and garden when she wasn’t enjoying a nice long walk. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Manfred and Gerd. She will be profoundly missed by her children Thomas Bauer and wife Simone of Germany, daughter Rita Sand-Voss and husband David of Enumclaw, son Michael Sand & Stefani of Enumclaw and her grandchildren Amanda, Emily, Eike, Olivia, Rachel, Henning and Sophie. Her family would like to extend heart felt thanks to all those good souls who helped Marlene over the years whether it was help with a task at home, a call, a card or a visit and especially keeping her in your prayers. A special thank you to those who tended her so kindly in her last days. She was rich in her friends and appreciated you all! A memorial service will be held Thursday November 11th at 1:00 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church in Enumclaw. Memorials may be made to Hope Lutheran Church, 1316 Garfield Street, Enumclaw, WA 98022
