Obituary of Imogene Ruby Simmons

Imogene Ruby (Mitchell) Simmons was born October 23, 1930 in Hartville, Missouri to Bud and Francis Mitchell. In 1945 Imogene met the love of her life a young soldier James Otto and they married on August 17th ,1947. In 1950, her husband felt called to the ministry and she followed and supported him throughout his career. She had many professions throughout her life but found a special love for nursing and attended the Nursing School at Colby Community College in Colby, Kansas. When Jim’s career took him to Vancouver Canada Imogene followed and found the second love of her life was to be working in the Deaf Ministry. Throughout her ministry in the church, she taught stories to children and seniors using the “Flannel Graph Method”. Imogene learned to play the piano early in her life and was always available to accompany anyone who asked and play for the church congregation. Being one of 14 children, family was always very high on her priority list. You would sometimes see her talking to children at the church or sharing a story or even a piece of candy. In the later years of her life when her health deteriorated and she couldn’t work any longer, she always gave 100% to her church and family. Imogene is survived by her husband James of 63 yrs, son’s Michael, Richard, Curt, Randy and 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grand children. Special thanks to ICU at St Clare hospital for their care and attention during her last hours.
