Obituary of Charles Tendol Gregg

Charles Tendol Gregg, 97, passed on March 27, 2010, at his home. Mr. Gregg was born September 20, 1912, in Dozier, TX, to William and Lessie Gregg. He moved to Tacoma, WA in 1934 and worked at Western State Hospital where he would meet his wife and marry in 1936. During WWII, Mr. Gregg was Lead Welder in the shipyard and drove the “Victory Bus”. After the war, Mr. Gregg took a position with TAM Engineering where he worked for 31 years before retiring in 1977. He relocated to the home he built with his son in Timberlakes near Shelton, WA where he lived with his wife of 73 years, Lenore Gregg, until moving back to Tacoma in January of this year. Mr. Gregg left an indelible imprint on those fortunate enough to have known him. Paternal, kind, understated, classy. He was both a strong family leader and a sweet, loving gentleman. A man who exemplified the best of his generation and set a standard to be followed by future ones. To his family, he was, and will forever be our “Papa”. Mr. Gregg is survived by his wife, Lenore (99), his sisters Alma Cutler of Tacoma, WA, Anita Budak of University Place, WA and Wyvonna Gregg of San Diego, CA; daughter Beverly “Penni” Bratbak and son Charles Thomas Gregg, Sr. both of Tacoma; grandchildren Krista Bishop (Husband Justin) of Modesto, CA, Charles Gregg, Jr. (wife Erica Schutte) of Seattle, WA, Jeffery Gregg (wife Laurie Lauerman), Kevin Bratbak and Christopher Gregg (wife Kristy) of Tacoma. Mr. Gregg was also blessed with 6 great grandchildren who loved him dearly. Arrangements for a private celebration of his wonderful life will be held in Tacoma.
