Obituary of Joann G. Mayberry

Joann G Mayberry was born in Raymond, Washington to James C & Grace Gillespie on March 2, 1924. She died on June 13, 2011 in Gig Harbor, Washington. Her parents moved to Tacoma, Washington when she was a teenager from Raymond, Washington. In 1963 Joann & Clyde moved to Rosedale, Washington. Joann was a member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church, and a volunteer at Clara A. Kunigk Orthopedic Guild, Tacoma, Washington. Later after moving to Gig Harbor, she became a member of Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church where she also volunteered. Joann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a strong woman and exceptional listener and always willing to have a good conversation about almost anything. Joann was the family hostess for the annual Christmas family breakfast and sparkled with her whole family together. She was also an avid horse lover and in her mid 40’s fulfilled her dream of owning a horse. She connected with local horseman Arnie Arnold and purchased her first Tennessee Walking horse, “Gambler Jo”. This began a friendship with Arnold’s Stables and the Tennessee Walking horse community that spanned many decades. She is survived by husband Clyde of 56 years, sons Richard (Marcia) Michaelson, Russell Mayberry, daughter Dale Michaelson and stepson Brian (Melanie) Mayberry, ten grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Donald James Michaelson, her parents James C & Grace Gillespie, Sister Betty Briggs and granddaughter Hildi Grace Johnson. Per her request there will be no services. Memorials can be sent to Franciscan Hospice or the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Edwards Memorial Center (253)566-1008
