Although it was sad news, I was glad that I saw the obituary in the Missoulian, which steered me to the longer obituary here. It was a delight to read. I was a high school student in Eureka in the 1970s when Mr. McGeorge (that's how we knew him then; not sure he'd care for that formality now) was my English teacher. He also was the adviser to our literary magazine. He helped lay some of the groundwork for my career in journalism. I saw him in the student-teacher role, so it was fun to see the many other facets of his life as laid out in the obit. He left a good mark on the world.

Fond thoughts and memories of our adventures with Gene when we were living on the Bass Creek Commune. Thanks for the great obituary! Wasn't it also true that he was superintendent of schools in Eureka, MT for a few years???! So he told us to our amazement!

I SAW THE NOTICE AND REMEMBERED GENE FROM HIS BITTERROOT MUSIC DAYS. I WAS ONE OF THOSE WHOM HUNG OUT FOR HOURS WHEN BUYING ONE GUITAR STRING. HE WAS GENEROUS OF SPIRIT AND HELPED ME OUT FROM TIME TO TIME. I DID NOT KNOW OF ALL HIS ADVENTURES AND REALLY LOVED THE OBITUARY. MY CONDOLENCES TO ALL WHO KNEW AND LOVED GENE. I AM SURE THAT HIS ADVENTURES ARE CONTINUING ELSEWHERE.

Gene was a wonderful man and Pauline was a wonderful woman. I lived with them on Banana Road. We celebrated love, life, and creativity.

I knew Gene, distantly, back in the 70's. An oasis from the crazy stuff we all were doing, he was a dollop of reality - the good kind. And so kind....so very kind.
