To Teresa and the entire Graves family: I am so sorry for your loss. Teresa is a dear friend and colleague and she shared with us the wonderful time she had with Steve and her family on his earlier visit to Atlanta. Remember that God is your strength, so lean on Him and each other to make it through these difficult times. My prayers are with you.

The only person in my life that ever took the time to teach me how to fish. I didn't catch anything. I was horrible. Thanks for being my dad for the day. I needed that. And yes, I've seen the newspaper clipping of that infamous football game!

How well we remember Steve, his gentlemanly manners, his athletic prowess, his singing ability in the band he and Rick had, and the great time they had fishing with Steve's Dad. He certainly left a lasting impression on our family. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to his family and pray for the Lord's comfort and peace. Sincerely, Andy & Barb Wilkerson, Rick, Scott and Brenda

I worked with Steve a few places through the years, and was always impressed with his sense of character, thoughfulness, humor and enjoyment of life. A true man's man, through and through. Loved how he had the hesitation in thought prior to dropping the bomb in trash talking, and the fact is, he was one of the best salespeople I've ever known. He was visiting at Gary and Jeff's place the Wednesday prior to his passing, and I just missed him. I'll see him again. My family will keep Steve's family in our prayers, may the Lord ease your pain. Please accept my sincere apologies for leaving soon after service as I found out yesterday and only had limited daycare for my young one. By hearing your family speak today, I now know where Steve got his class, it runs through-out. God bless you until we meet again.

Our hearts go out to the Graves family. Steven will be greatly missed by all he touched. I best remember Stevens smile and his gentle voice. He lived with us for bit, a couple times. Going to Georgia and then coming back from Georgia. He always appreciated the home cooking, and I never worried that the leftovers would go to waste when he was here. Stephen loved to eat! Gary will always cherish the memories of fishing trips with Steven. All the special fishin' holes they shared. We both remember him sitting at the dining room table meticulously tying flies one after the other. They were amazing looking. We met up with him a few times at Purdy. There he would be floating out there in his float ring. Bobbing in the water with a big smile on his face! Steven always talked highly about his family, and especially about his children. You will be missed by so many! I hope that where you are there is an endless supply of Hostess Ding Dongs and a most marvelous fishin hole! Good-bye friend.

My heart goes out to Steve's family/friends. In my brief meeting with Steve he was a perfect gentleman with a beautiful smile. He loved Rennee very much and spoke of his family with pride.I know he's looking down on everyone and embracing all your hearts. Words are almost impossible to ease the pain, so think of the memories to help you through this. May god bless you in this most difficult time.

Steven Graves, I'm still alittle stunned. We're all stunned here at Car Trek. I can't believe we lost Ronny in December now you in March. Here it is Tuesday evening, store's closed, everyone's gone, & I'm still here. I'd be seeing you tomorrow morning when you come on shift, but not this tomorrow. Instead, tomorrow, I, and many others, will be at your Memorial to pay our last respects. To a person I've personally only known for about a year and a half, but to someone that wasn't only a co-worker but one I considered a friend. I kind of felt I helped Steve alittle come into the 20th century.I showed him how easy it was to purchase airline tickets online on this thing called a computer. I also helped him purchase his first computer, a Dell laptop.

It was pretty comical watching and helping Steve navigate this modern technolgy computer thingy. And the internet, what's that.? Steve thought that email thing was great. He could be more in contact with his family. He was so excited when he got his first email from his sister, although he did need help in opening it. I'm pretty sure my youngest child, at age 5, had better computer skills than Steve. Once Steve couldn't log onto his computer because he forgot his password. I was able to get him on his own computer by guessing his password with the 'password hint' he set up himself. Guess what it was related to, FISHING, Yes FISHING and he still couldn't figure it out. On another occasion he somehow got his internet explorer condensed to about a quarter inch. He thought he really messed something up and didn't know all you had to do was click on the bottom of it and pull it down. Numerous times I could see Steve, with my peripheral vision, packing up his LapTop from his desk to bring it to mine, so I could get him out of another computer mess. It was so funny because most of the time it was just a simple remedy. I couldn't help but to chastise him, in a funny way of course. But I can say his computer skills improved over time, and they were difinetely better than Al's.! Sorry Al if you read this.

Two stories I would like to share about Steve: one a lot of people know and the other just a few. I love to tell the story of his magnificent 80 yd touchdown run against Batavia during our junior year. Conference championship on the line, large crowd, night game, snow and 8 minutes left with us down by 7. I remember Steve asking for the ball in the huddle. I remember watching the game film with Quentin and counting 10 players that had a shot at Steve a few must have tried twice. That run was as great an individual effort as anything I have seen. Steve just refused to let us lose. I moved to Rochester just before the start of my sophomore year of HS. I went out for football when school started and somehow, I was to be the starting halfback for our first JV game. The day before the game, Steve came up to me in the locker room and asked if I would wear his no 20 jersey. He had been moved up to varsity and I think he wanted to do something to give his team from last year a boost. He had no idea (or maybe he did) how much that helped me to feel like I belonged. At that time in my life, it was by far the best thing that anyone could have done for me thanks Steve.

The world will not be the same without my hero Steven Graves Sr. Whether in the classroom or on the football field, he always was someone everyone tried to emulate. To Brian, Sherman and Teresa, know that we all admired your brother. To Steven Jr. and Christine, know that your father was a decent man who everyone had respect for. To Steven's mother, Dorothy, we are all grieving over his loss and you should be proud of the fine job you did raising Steven. He turned out to be one of the finest men of his generation and will be sorely missed.
