To the Brehmeyer family: My blessings are with you all! I know this is a very difficult time for you. My dealings with Gene were with his getting training. I always enjoyed the phone conversations. I saw in him a good man dedicated to worker's safety and an off base sence of humor. He knew what he believed in, he had a good soul. He was a wonderful part of your lives! When the body is no longer there, the love continues . .All he was will continue to be a good part of your heart.

My sympathies go to Gene's family and friends as I know his passing is a great loss. Gene impressed me as a good man when I first met him over 36 years ago when we both worked at Camp Grisdale. Gene believed in doing what he thought was right and went out of his way to stand up for the rights of his fellow workers. If there was trouble you could explain them to Gene and he would listen and take action to set things right. I know his heart was in protecting his fellow workers and family meant the world to him. I am saddened at his passing and will keep his memory deep in my heart. That place in my heart is well earned by Mr. Gene Brehmeyer. Mario 'Wink' Winkelman

Dear Brehmeyer Family. I'm sorry for your loss. Washington workers lost a true champion and advocate for safer and more healthful workplaces with Gene's passing. I worked in the Public Affairs Office at L&I for 10 years, serving as the liaison to the WISHA program. That meant I spent a lot of time on the telephone talking to newspaper reporters, TV reporters and the like everytime there was a serious workplace accident somewhere in the state. Gene was someone I could always count on to return my calls and provide information when I needed details in a hurry. I can't remember the circumstances of the first time I worked with Gene on an investigation, but I do remember that he struck me as a colorful individual. When I left L&I six years ago promoting to another agency, Gene took the time to call and wish me luck. We had a good conversation. That's one thing I'll always remember about Gene, whenever you had a conversation with him, you spent a lot of time laughing. He was quite a character. I truly liked and respected him, and I'm sorrowed by his passing. Please accept my healthfelt condolences. Bill Ripple A friend of Gene's.

How shockingly sad that Gene as passed. I was public affairs manager at L&I for 15 years before retiring 5 years ago ... and Gene was a major information source and friend to me at L&I. In my book, he was a first-class professional ... and a very nice man. My condolences to all of Gene's family. -- Roland Lund
