Stan and I served together for 15 years on the three-man committee which oversaw the resurrection and administration of the Puget Sound Maritime Man of the Year award. Our many meetings covered not only the award and maritime industry developments but also a wide variety of other topics including politics, sports, sports stadiums, celebrities, and life around Puget Sound. I shall miss him. I also think that it was entirely fitting that his memorial service was on May 22 - that's National Maritime Day.

Dear Karissa, Always know that Grandpa Thurston loved you and all his grandchildren equally. Grandpa Stan will always be your 'real' grandpa. You are, were, and always will be his 'real' granddaughter. Captain Stan had a special place in his heart for you and every one of his grandkids. Grandpa's heart was big enough to have love to go around to everyone in his life. Love makes you family - so never forget that Grandpa loved you very much! You and all the grandkids brought so much joy to Grandpa Stan Thurston, that he would never, ever want you to think that there was any doubt that he was your 'real' grandpa. Always remember how much Grandpa loved you! Your Scrabble Partner & Cuz, Debbie

Uncle Stan - I'm writing on behalf of your big sister, Maggie, and for myself, too. You obviously must have been mom's favorite because she named my brother Stan after you! I will always remember the twinkle in your eyes, your laugh and your love for your whole family. Some of my best memories are of all the holidays together when I was growing up. Luella, no one could have loved and cared for Uncle Stan more or better than you. Mom and I send you our love and prayers always. Cindy

Working with Stan at Foss Maritime Seattle was indeed a pleasure. What a thougtful, caring man. Every Christmas he would tell me that he and his family would go out and chop down the ugliest tree they could find, decorate it, and it would turn out just beautiful. Thanks Stan, now every Christmas I think of you. I just had to share that with you and your Family Luella. Our deepest sympathy to you all. We have all lost a dear Captain. Joan and Roy Sundquist

Dear Capt, My Uncle Stan, Thanks for the warm strength you've always shown to our entire family. You truly were a rock we could always look toward. I always enjoyed our visits in CA on your many travels, but it was alot nicer to see you more often the last few years, since I moved back to WA. We already miss you so much! Rest in peace, keep the light on, hold the door for us, and we'll see you soon... Your Loving Niece, Debbie
