All of us at the Cispus Learning Center were saddened to hear of the passing of Dr.Rieke. He always made us feel that we carried out important work on behalf of the youth of Washington. We will forever be grateful for the support he gave us. In addition, it was an honor to recommend huckelberry picking spots each fall!

Dear Joanne and Family, We are so sad to hear of Bill's death. Marianne Pfeiffer Sakamoto (PLC '54) had fond memories of Bill from her classes at PLU. Her daugher, Erika Somm (PLU '91), remembers him as a friendly man. He never forgot the names of the people he met, even if he only met them once. No small feat for a busy college president. He was a wonderful person who left a legacy, not only at PLU, but in your family. We are thinking of you. Blessings, Ben Sakamoto

Dear Joanne and Family, Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. As we remember Dr. Rieke, we get to think of him a little different than many, we got the chance to know him as a neighbor. A man not in a suit, but wearing his overhauls. A very kind person who enjoyed all things around him. For 14 years our family and the whole neighborhood got to enjoy the beauty of nature, because of him. He even made a vegetable garden look beautiful! He will be missed. Love, The Edmunds

Dear Joanne and family, I remember Bill so well from PLU. But my fondest memory of him dates to my senior year in high school up in Whatcom County. Bill and Malcolm Soine came to Bellingham as a public relations team for PLC. I give Bill a lot of credit for his enthusiastic presentation of the school that led to my attending there. When I graduated in 1955 I had a good foundation for 35 years of teaching and for life. I praise God for Bill's life of service to Him and to others. May God truly be your comfort at this time. Dear Joanne and Family, My deepest condolences on the loss of your husband, father and grandfather. During the eight plus years I worked at PLU President Rieke always provided wise and sometimes humorous counsel when dealing with the various complicated student and administrative issues that came through my role as the Associate Dean for Student Life & Administrative Grievance Officer. His graciousness and compassion toward staff and students presented a wonderful role model for all to follow. The world is a better place for his presence and he will be greatly missed.

Dear Joanne, Susan and Jeff, Stephen and Eileen, Marcus and Paula, Grandchildren, Our hearts go out to you as you grieve the passing of your husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather. So many, many other people who have been deeply touched and blessed by the Lord's team of Bill and Joanne Rieke also keenly feel Bill's death. We do. At the same time, we celebrate the outstanding gift of this leader-servant, who with his wife made so many creative, caring and selfless contributions to the places and people they have served in a joyful, loving manner. We are thankful too for the living legacy Bill and Joanne have made in your role of parents and grandparents. Dr. Rieke's living testimony of his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior was special in the constext of his role as a scientist, physician, educator, and academic leader. We thank God, for Bill and for all of you family members. With our love and prayers, Dwight and Lee Zulauf

Dear Mrs. Rieke and Family; Dr. Rieke was a kind, fair and honorable man who contributed a great deal to the climate of the PLU community. During his presidency, the atmosphere as a student, and as a family member of a faculty member, was one to be fondly remembered. Please accept my condolences for your loss. Laura Nolph

Dear Joanne and family, Fond memories recall you hostessing the PLU wives club and you and Dr. Rieke sharing lunch at the 'Wilcox farm Store' near PLU in Parkland, during my years of employment there. Always smiling and happy, you were both gracious when an invading bee chose to sting you. Forever in awe of Dr. Rieke's amazing accomplishments, it was apparent to me that you and his children were the priority. Losing my husband, Andy, (PLU Golf Course) to cancer and complications at age 69 last August, sadly, we must share God's plan as our loves live forever in our hearts. With Deepest Sympathy, Susan
