Obituary of Donald L. Shaw

On May 18th, 2011, Donald L. Shaw passed into the heavens with open arms to reunite with his wife of 37 years, Ora Bell, and daughter Pamela. Don lived a life of giving back to others and infected love and compassion in everyone he met. After 20 years of serving his country, including Vietnam and Korea, having traveled the world, he retired to serve his fellow man: First as a husband and father, then as a teacher, then as an Eagle and finally as a grandfather. He was an active member and past worthy president of the West Seattle Eagles. His monthly dinners would draw hundreds. He was instrumental in the redesign of the current Senior Center. When Don was not on the links, he was traveling with his grandson to local tennis tournaments or far off places. A little joke and a big smile could often be seen by anyone that came into contact with him. He was a father to many, a dear friend to more and truly loved every person he came across. Once a friend, you were a friend for life. He is survived by his grandsons; Carl Bergquist and Michael Ward, Granddaughter Jackie Ferrell as well as nieces and nephews. In accordance with his wishes, he wants people to celebrate his life, please leave a message or story about great times or events you had with Don, by signing the online guest book. We know that if you were friends for 40+ years or had only met, he cared and loved you! Thank you for being a part of his life, he held you in his heart for a lifetime. A celebration of his life will be held on Sun June 26th, 2011, 2-6pm at the West Seattle Eagles #2643, Address 4426 California Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98116, 206-938-4426. At the time of this printing the family is looking into setting up a Donald Shaw College Scholarship to give to one high school student, each year, who commits extended amounts of time to serving others and requests that donations be made to the Eagles in care of the scholarship.
