Obituary of Frank Martindale Kinney

Frank was born December 25, 1924 to Frank Sr. and Natalie in New York , NY . He left with Jesus on November 3, 2009 . Frank graduated High School in West Orange , NJ and earned a scholarship in Swimming at Rutgers University . However, WWII intervened and Frank was called to action with the Army Air Corps. Three years later he and Eileen were married and from this union came three children: Suzanne Weaver (husband Don), Steve Kinney (wife Claire), and Barbara Derry (husband Bill). Upon relocating to the Tacoma area, he met and married his second wife, Jan, adding her three children to his protection: Annette Johnson (husband Wayne), Scott Farrell (wife Kerri), and Stephanie Johnson. He loved both sets of children as his own and attempted to treat them as equals. He had nine grandchildren and 3 great-grandsons. Always a performer, Frank was equally happy in his long career in Sales for 3 M Corporation or on stage where his melodious booming baritone voice could be heard at the back of the hall without amplification. His voice was often compared with that of Robert Goulet. Frank loved to sing Show Tunes and hymns, but his renditions of “Ave Maria” or “O Holy Night” could be counted upon to bring tears to ones eyes. And then, just as quickly, his uncanny ability to mimic voices and foreign accents would bring tears of laughter. His repertoire of jokes was legendary. Frank’s passions were God and Church, singing, acting, and volunteering at the Purdy Women’s prison. Later in life he grew to enjoy audio books. He always had a smile, a joke, and he never “met” a stranger. Memorial services will be held at Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church in Gig Harbor at 2PM November 14, 2009 . In lieu of flowers donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis , TN are suggested. Their address is: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis , TN 38105 https://www.stjude.org
