Obituary of Calvin Washington

Calvin Washington, 74 has been a long term resident of Tacoma, Washington passed away Saturday 19, 2011. With his family by his side, at his Tacoma residence. A memorial service was held Tuesday March 1, 2011 at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Covington, Washington. He was born February 4, 1937 in Memphis, Tennessee to Willie L. Wicks and Mildred E. Washington. He graduated from Hamilton High School in Memphis Tennessee. After high school he served 23 years in the United States Army before retiring. While in the military he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, The Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medals, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Oversea Service Bars, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with V Device along with numerous other awards. Following his retirement from the military, he was employed by Skippers for a number of years. Calvin's last employment endeavor was with the Pierce Transit, which resulted in his second retirement. He was a loving and caring man. A wonderful father, who would go any distance to help anyone in need. He had a heart of gold. An everlasting smile and the strength of a lion with a teddy bear soul. He enjoyed deep sea fishing, woodwork, arts and had a special love for jazz. Calvin is survived by his children; Michael (Sheri) of Redmond, WA, Crystal of Tacoma, WA, Debora (James) of Gassville, AR, Tracey of (Lakewood, WA), eight grandchildren and also several great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Shirley Wilson of Memphis, TN as well as extended family and friends. He left a lifelong impression on us all, he'll be deeply missed.
