Obituary of Edward Lewis Burkey

Edward Lewis Burkey, 73, a Gig Harbor resident passed away December 17, 2010. He was born on December 3, 1937 in Waterloo, Iowa. He faithfully served in the United States Air Force as Instructor and Weather Forecaster, and many other positions asked of him from 1956 through 1959. During Ed’s working years he rose to the level of Master Machinist and later retired after 18 years as a Manufacturing Engineer from the Boeing Company. Ed enjoyed many interests with his wife Ann Burkey of 37 years, including becoming involved at the Gig Harbor Eagles, also joining Vagabond RV Club, traveling in their motor home which took them to many interesting places, they enjoyed the friendship and camaraderie of all the club members. Within the Eagles Ed held positions of Trustee and most recently until his illness, President. One of Ed’s favorite destinations was the Ocean Beaches, especially during Razor Clam season. Over the years Ed also enjoyed; woodworking, cooking, fishing, smoking meats and fish. His sense of humor and generosity of spirit remained with him through his final days. He is survived by his wife Ann, children; Rebecca Burkey, John Burkey, Errika Stanley, Sean Burkey, step children John Andersen, Anita Henderson and brother Richard Burkey. In addition there are many grand children, cousins, nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
