Obituary of Victor K Plett

December 21, 1917 - October 2, 2009 Victor K Plett, 91, a resident of Life Manor Assisted Living, passed away on October 2, 2009. He was born in rural Lehigh, Kansas on December 21, 1917 to Abraham and Tina Plett. He accepted Christ and was baptized at the Springfield Krimmer Mennonite Brethren Church near Lehigh. In 1939, he married Elda Winter who preceded him in death in 2006. In 1950, the couple and their three boys moved from Kansas to Walla Walla and then to Dayton, Washington before finally settling in Parkland in 1954. After working his entire life in the dairy industry, Victor retired as a milkman from Flett Dairy in 1976. During World War II, he was a butter maker for Tip Top Dairy in Hillsboro, Kansas. After moving to Washington, he worked for Darigold in Walla Walla and Dayton and for Arden Farms, Foremost Dairy, and Carnation Dairy in Tacoma. Victor attended Tacoma Bible Institute. As a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and later Central Baptist Church in Tacoma, he served on church boards, as a deacon, and as an adult Sunday School Teacher. He set an effective Christian example as well for his own children. He also encouraged his three boys to develop a love of learning which led them to careers as a minister/chaplain, a college professor/administrator, and a corporate bank vice president. Victor’s leisure activities included gardening, travel, and fishing. After retirement, he and Elda spent many days in their boat fishing for salmon at Anderson Island. Five brothers and four sisters preceded him in death. He is survived by one brother and two sisters; three sons and daughters-in-law, Weldon and Janice Plett, James and Linda Plett, and Larry and Linda Plett; ten grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. A life celebration service will be held at Central Baptist Church (The Church on the Hill) in Tacoma at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2009. Memorial gifts may be designated to Central Baptist Church.
