Obituary of Marjorie Ann Berry

Born September 17, 1925 in Seattle, Washington to George and Stella Hagen, Marjorie Ann was with her husband Harry and family at their home in Fircrest, Washington when she left this life to rejoin her parents, brother George Jr. and sister Georgia Rehman on May 9, 2006. She is survived by husband Harry; two sons and their wives, George and Joan of Eatonville, Washington and Michael and Marie of Gig Harbor, Washington and three grandchildren; Adam (Jennifer), Cameron and Leann. Marjorie Ann moved with her family to Eatonville when her father was transferred there to reorganize the State Banks of Eatonville, Morton and Orting following the depression of 1929. She attended Eatonville Grade School and High School. She loved spending summers nearby at the family’s cabin on Clear Lake. During her senior year at Eatonville High, she worked as a cashier for her dad at the bank. In 1943 she entered the University of Washington with a major in home economics. There she met her future husband Harry, a naval officer training cadet. From that day on, she joked that her happy 59-year marriage began with a blind date on April Fool’s Day. She was an active member and treasurer of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. On July 18, 1947, Marjorie Ann and Harry married. In 1948 they resided in Ann Arbor, Michigan while Harry earned a masters degree in architecture from the University of Michigan. While at Michigan, they became members of the University chorus for Gilbert and Sullivan productions. Their next stop was Pullman, Washington where Harry taught Architecture. They welcomed their first son, George, and Marjorie Ann was active in faculty wives’ functions. In 1955, they settled in Tacoma where they welcomed Michael and they raised their family. Marjorie Ann managed the office of Harry and George’s architecture-engineering consulting business. She was active in PTA and church activities. She served on the Tacoma Panhellenic Board and in a number of capacities for her sorority alumnae group. She also volunteered her services at St. Joseph’s Hospital. In retirement, she enjoyed following the Husky football team and traveling with Harry, her sister and brother-in-law. Marjorie Ann was a dedicated daughter, daughter-in-law, wife, mother and grandmother. Throughout her life, she always considered others before herself. Marjorie Ann and Harry worshipped at Life Center on South 19th Street and Union Avenue in Tacoma. Pastor Kenton Lee will conduct a memorial service at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 24 in the Life Center Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the Stella Hagen Guild of the Children’s Hospital Foundation, PO Box 50021 MS2-200, Seattle, Washington 98145-5020.
